For our analysis of the data from the First Annual Proteomics Data Mining Conference, we attempted to discriminate between 24 disease spectra (group A) and 17 normal spectra (group B). First, we processed the raw spectra by (i) correcting for additive sinusoidal noise (periodic on the time scale) affecting most spectra, (ii) correcting for the overall baseline level, (iii) normalizing, (iv) recombining fractions, and (v) using variable-width windows for data reduction. Also, we identified a set of polymeric peaks (at multiples of 180.6 Da) that is present in several normal spectra (B1-B8). After data processing, we found the intensities at the following mass to charge (m/z) values to be useful discriminators: 3077, 12 886 and 74 263. Using these values, we were able to achieve an overall classification accuracy of 38/41 (92.6%). Perfect classification could be achieved by adding two additional peaks, at 2476 and 6955. We identified these values by applying a genetic algorithm to a filtered list of m/z values using Mahalanobis distance between the group means as a fitness function.

In this paper, a series of novel quinazoline-4(3)-one-2-carbothioamide derivatives (8a-p) were designed and synthesized the Wilgerodt-Kindler reaction between 2-methylquinazoline-4-one 10 and amines using S/DMSO as the oxidizing system. Their characteristics were confirmed by IR, NMR, HRMS spectra, and their melting point. These novel derivatives (8a-p) were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting NO production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW 264.

This paper describes a series of 12 9,10-dimethoxyanthracene derivatives functionalized with a range of electronically diverse ethynyl substituents at the 2 and 6 positions, aimed at tuning their optoelectronic properties and reactivity with singlet oxygen (O). Optical spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and density functional theory calculations reveal that the ethynyl groups decrease the HOMO-LUMO gaps in these acenes. Notably, bis(dimethylanilineethynyl) substituents increase the wavelength of absorbance onset by over 60 nm compared to 9,10-dimethoxyanthracene (DMA).

We report the results of a study of the interaction between torsion and the low frequency out-of-plane silyl wag vibration in the ground, S, and excited, S, electronic states of phenylsilane. These studies follow the observation of interactions between methyl torsion and the out-of-plane methyl wagging vibration in toluene, several fluoro-substituted toluenes and -methylpyrrole. The interaction leads to various spectroscopic constants becoming divorced from their usual physical meaning.

We report spectroscopic and spectrometric experiments that probe the London dispersion interaction between -butyl substituents in three series of covalently linked, protonated -pyridines in the gas phase. Molecular ions in the three test series, along with several reference molecules for control, were electrosprayed from solution into the gas phase and then probed by infrared multiphoton dissociation spectroscopy and trapped ion mobility spectrometry. The observed N-H stretching frequencies provided an experimental readout diagnostic of the ground-state geometry of each ion, which could be furthermore compared to a second, independent structural readout via the collision cross section.
