A comprehensive evidence-based review of stroke rehabilitation was created to be an up-to-date review of the current evidence in stroke rehabilitation and to provide specific conclusions based on evidence that could be used to help direct stroke care at the bedside and at home. A literature search using multiple data-bases was used to identify all trials from 1968 to 2001. Methodological quality of the individual randomized controlled trials was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) quality assessment scale. A five-stage level-of-evidence approach was used to determine the best practice in stroke rehabilitation. Over 403 treatment-based articles investigating of various areas of stroke rehabilitation were identified. This included 272 randomized controlled trials.

Electromyography (EMG) is increasingly used in stroke assessment research, with studies showing that EMG co-contraction (EMG-CC) of upper limb muscles can differentiate stroke patients from healthy individuals and correlates with clinical scales assessing motor function. This suggests that EMG-CC has potential for both assessing motor impairments and monitoring recovery in stroke patients. However, systematic reviews on EMG-CC's effectiveness in stroke assessment are lacking.

The secondary prevention benefits of cardiac rehabilitation and similar exercise classes for stroke survivors are well established, however post-stroke exercise participation remains low. This research aimed to explore the factors affecting participation and engagement in UK-based post-stroke cardiac rehabilitation and exercise, from the perspective of the service user and service provider. An exploratory study, using semi-structured interviews, was conducted (n = 8, service user = 4), adopting a phenomenological approach.

Purpose: Stroke results in long-term impacts on a person's life requiring ongoing management after formal rehabilitation ends. Coaching can support people to build competencies and skills for managing health-related challenges and has the potential to support stroke survivors to continue achieving goals on their own following rehabilitation. This review sought to describe the research on coaching interventions for adults living with stroke.

Background/objectives: Aquatic exercise is attracting attention as a method of rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy (CP). The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate whether aquatic exercise for children with CP improves their walking ability and quality of life (QOL) and is enjoyable for them.
Methods: A literature search was conducted on 2 August 2024 using three databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials through Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews.

Introduction: Stroke incidence in younger adults is increasing worldwide yet few comprehensive studies exist from a UK population. We investigated the risk factors, mechanisms, functional outcome and stroke recurrence rate in a cohort of young adults with stroke.
Patients And Methods: We included consecutive patients (<55 years) with ischaemic stroke or intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) admitted to the University College London Hospitals Hyperacute Stroke Unit between 2017 and 2020.
