Objective: Influenced by their life stage and socio-cultural background, young and middle-aged cancer patients in China may experience unique psychological distress. Therefore, this study investigated the severity, problems, and associated factors of psychological distress among young and middle-aged cancer patients.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on young and middle-aged cancer patients aged 18-59 who were treated at a radiotherapy center from February 2022 to September 2023.

Dual-Response UV Radiation Detector Based on Color Switching and Photoresistance Response for UV Radiation Monitoring.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Key Laboratory of New Energy and Rare Earth Resource Utilization of State Ethnic Affairs Commission, Key Laboratory of Photosensitive Materials & Devices of Liaoning Province, School of Physics and Materials Engineering, Dalian Minzu University, Dalian 116600, People's Republic of China.

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is dangerous and can cause serious skin diseases if skin is excessively exposed to it. Thus, it is highly desirable for human health to monitor the UV radiation intensity. In this report, a flexible and stretchable dual-response UV radiation detector is reported by integrating UV-responsive color-switchable WO quantum dots (QDs) with an electrical hydrogel.

Balancing the solar irradiance needs: optimising growth in sphagnum palustre through tailored UV-B effects.

Background: The carbon sequestration potential and water retention capacity of peatlands are closely linked to the growth dynamics of Sphagnum mosses. However, few studies have focused on the response of Sphagnum moss growth dynamics to UV-B radiation, and existing research has emphasized species differences. In this study, Sphagnum palustre L.

Background: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) declines and pain responses can occur during radium-223 (Ra) treatment, but their association with treatment outcomes is unclear.

Methods: For patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer treated with Ra in the REASSURE study, we investigated whether ALP decline (Week 12) and/or pain response (during treatment) are associated with improved overall survival (OS). The Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form (BPI-SF) was used to assess pain at baseline and pain response (in patients with baseline BPI-SF score ≥2).

Assessment of the predictive power the radiation-induced lymphocyte apoptosis method in prostate cancer patients.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Radiobiology and Diagnostic Onco-Cytogenetics, Centre of Radiotherapy, National Institute of Oncology, 1122, Ráth György utca 7-9, Budapest, Hungary.

Due to the better survival of patients with tumorous diseases, it is increasingly important to predict the side effects of radiotherapy, for which the Radiation-Induced Lymphocyte Apoptosis (RILA) method is proving to be effective in multicentric studies. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men worldwide, which is usually treated with radiotherapy. We recruited 49 patients with localized prostate cancer and performed RILA measurements before radiotherapy.
