Limited research on SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology in Africa was conducted, focusing on samples from Coastal Kenya between March 2020 and June 2021.
Out of 99,694 tested individuals, 7,737 (7.7%) were positive for SARS-CoV-2, with 92.4% being asymptomatic; testing heavily relied on mass screenings, particularly for travelers.
Symptomatic individuals showed higher antibody levels and cleared the virus more quickly than asymptomatic ones, indicating that asymptomatic infections are prevalent in the population.
