Relationship of serum antihistone antibody level to the patient's age.

Acta Med Hung

Department of Clinical Chemistry, University Medical School, Pécs, Hungary.

Published: April 1993

The serum antihistone antibody (AHA) positivity of patients with various autoimmune diseases was compared with their positive reaction for antinuclear factor, rheumatoid factor, lupus erythematosus factor, cryoglobulin, immunocomplex, C-reactive protein, total protein, gamma globulin, IgG and IgM. In non-drug-induced SLE cases the predictive value of the AHA test was not higher than that of the other tests. It was striking that in 42% of patients with non-autoimmune disease aged over 70 the AHA test was positive. Elevated IgM values were recorded in about 70% of positive AHA samples.

Integrating clinical data and genetic susceptibility to elucidate the relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus and human cytomegalovirus infection.

Virol J

November 2024

Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Key Laboratory of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Ministry of Education, National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases (NCRC-DID), Beijing, China.

Background: Viral infections are known to induce the occurrence and pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Previous studies have indicated a possible relationship between SLE and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection and have attributed HCMV to be associated with various autoantibodies; however, these studies were constrained by variations in sample size and potential selection bias. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between HCMV and autoantibodies in patients with SLE by integrating clinical data and genetic susceptibility.

Immune Markers and Inflammatory Cytokines in Granulomatous Lobular Mastitis: A Case-Control Study.

J Inflamm Res

November 2024

Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) has seen a rising incidence, though its pathogenesis remains unclear, posing challenges for treatment and contributing to high recurrence rates with conventional therapies. While the role of inflammatory and immune factors in GLM has been recognized, a comprehensive clinical evaluation of these markers is still lacking. This study aims to identify potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets by comparing immune markers and cytokine levels in GLM patients and healthy controls.

Serum antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody positivity at the time of renal biopsy is associated with disease activity of lupus nephritis.

Ren Fail

December 2024

Department of Nephrology, Blood Purification Research Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, China.

Objective: To investigate the correlations between serum antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) and clinicopathological features, induction treatment response, and prognosis of lupus nephritis (LN) patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study, biopsy-proven LN patients from October 2010 to September 2020 were tested for serum ANCA by indirect immunofluorescence and ELISA and were divided into ANCA-positive group and ANCA-negative group. The clinicopathological data of the two groups were analyzed and compared.

Article Synopsis
  • * There have been instances of lupus erythematosus developing after IL-17 inhibition, but this report highlights a unique case where a 57-year-old man developed membranous lupus nephritis after receiving secukinumab.
  • * Following the development of lupus nephritis, the patient was treated with various medications, including tacrolimus and belimumab, showing improvement; however, further investigation is necessary to understand the link between IL-17 inhibition and lupus.

Comparison of circulating and excreted metals and of autoimmunity between two Great Plains Tribal communities.

J Autoimmun

December 2024

University of New Mexico, Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine, Dept. of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Albuquerque, NM, USA.

Metals contaminants of the environment from mine waste have been implicated as contributing agents in autoimmune disease. The current study compares metals and autoimmunity in two Tribal communities residing in the Black Hills and the Bighorn Mountains geographical regions that are scattered with extant hard rock mines. With documented drinking water contamination in both communities, in vivo levels of more than half of the measured serum and urine metals differed between the two communities and were substantially different from their national median values.
