A method to identify the visible spectrum of micro areas on the biological surface with artificial neural net (BP-ANN) was introduced in this paper. The visible spectra (from 500 nm to 730 nm) of the micro areas with some rotten or scars on the surface of the apples were measured with fiber sensor spectrometer. A kind of ANN with a single hidden layer was created to identify the characters on the surface automatically. The effects of different ranges of output, different training functions, different number of single hidden layers, and different noise levels on the ANN were also studied.

Micro-Electro Nanofibrous Dressings Based on PVDF-AgNPs as Wound Healing Materials to Promote Healing in Active Areas.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an innovative solution for chronic wounds in high-mobility areas, such as joints, where conventional treatments are hindered by passive healing mechanisms and the need for immobilization. By designing a micro-electro-Nanofiber dressing composed of piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) integrated with antimicrobial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), this research aims to address the dual challenges of promoting effective wound healing and maintaining joint mobility.

Methods: Herein, we developed a novel micro-electro-Nanofiber dressing using electrospinning technology, incorporating polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).

Although the accumulation of random genetic mutations has been traditionally viewed as the main cause of cancer progression, altered mechanobiological profiles of the cells and microenvironment also play a major role as a mutation-independent element. To probe the latter, we have previously reported a microfluidic cell-culture platform with an integrated flexible actuator and its application for sequential cyclic compression of cancer cells. The platform is composed of a control microchannel in a top layer for introducing external pressure, and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane from which a monolithically-integrated actuator protrudes downwards into a cell-culture microchannel.

Precise and long-term electroanalysis at the single-cell level is crucial for the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of brain diseases. The reliable protection in areas outside the signal acquisition points at sharp ultramicroelectrode (UME) tips has a significant impact on the sensitivity, fidelity, and stability of intracellular neural signal recording. However, it is difficult for existing UMEs to achieve controllable exposure of the tip functional structure, which affects their ability to resist environmental interference and shield noise, resulting in unsatisfactory signal-to-noise ratio and signal fidelity of intracellular recordings.

Assessing microplastic and nanoplastic contamination in bird lungs: evidence of ecological risks and bioindicator potential.

Microplastics (MPs, 1 µm-5 mm) and nanoplastics (NPs, < 1 µm), collectively termed micro(nano)plastics (MNPs), are pervasive airborne pollutants with significant ecological risks. Birds, recognized as bioindicators, are particularly vulnerable to MNP exposure, yet the extent and risks of MNP pollution in bird lungs remain largely unexplored. This study assessed MP exposure in bird lungs of 51 species and NP exposure in the lungs of five representative species using laser direct infrared (LDIR) and pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) techniques, respectively.

Self-Organized Protonic Conductive Nanochannel Arrays for Ultra-High-Density Data Storage.

While the highest-performing memristors currently available offer superior storage density and energy efficiency, their large-scale integration is hindered by the random distribution of filaments and nonuniform resistive switching in memory cells. Here, we demonstrate the self-organized synthesis of a type of two-dimensional protonic coordination polymers with high crystallinity and porosity. Hydrogen-bond networks containing proton carriers along its nanochannels enable uniform resistive switching down to the subnanoscale range.
