Background: Invasive fibrosclerotic lesions of the head and neck outside of the thyroid and orbit are extremely rare. To date 13 cases of sclerosing cervicitis have been described in the literature.

Methods: We present a case of a sclerosing inflammatory lesion encountered at the skull base in a 49-year-old woman.

Results: After surgical excision and pathologic examination, this lesion was identified as sclerosing cervicitis.

Conclusions: This case report contributes to an awareness of a rare lesion of the head and neck that presents clinical and treatment challenges for surgeons managing these patients.

Intralesional bleomycin sclerotherapy for head and neck low-flow vascular malformations - A retrospective single-center experience.

J Craniomaxillofac Surg

January 2025

Neuroradiology Department, ULS São José, Lisbon, Portugal; NOVA Medical School, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal; Centro Clínico Académico de Lisboa (CCAL), Lisbon, Portugal.

Low-flow vascular malformations (LFVMs) account for over 90% of all vascular malformations, with the highest prevalence in the head and neck region. Intralesional sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice for subcutaneous LFVMs, although there is no consensus on optimal agent selection or dosage. Mild sclerosing agents, such as bleomycin, are commonly used in sensitive anatomical areas, including the head and neck, due to their favorable safety profile, despite slightly lower efficacy.

Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia (SMECE) is a rare thyroid malignancy typically linked to chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. We present the first documented case of SMECE in Georgia, involving a 41-year-old woman with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. A 16 mm hypoechoic thyroid nodule was detected on routine ultrasound, and fine needle aspiration categorized it as Bethesda V.
