The chemokine superfamily is probably complete. There are 42 human chemokines that through interaction with 18 receptors (which belong to the GPCR superfamily-class A) play pivotal roles in many important human diseases. Here we review some of the most compelling opportunities for drug development in this area.

The role of PPAR in fungal keratitis.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, The Second Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, China.

The treatment of fungal keratitis(FK) remains challenging due to delayed fungal detection and the limited effectiveness of antifungal drugs. Fungal infection can activate both innate and adaptive immune responses in the cornea. Fungi stimulate the production of oxidative stress-related biomarkers and mediate the infiltration of neutrophils, macrophages, and T cells.

Background: Activin A, a noteworthy member of the TGF-β superfamily. Activin A can regulate the biological functions of various immune cells, such as macrophages, neutrophils, NK cells, etc. The purpose of this study is to investigate the regulatory effect and related mechanisms of activin A on CD8 T cells.

Introduction: BRAFV600E mutation (BRAF) is common in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), and most patients have an excellent outcome. However, a TERT-promoter mutation (pTERT) in the presence of BRAF (BRAFpTERT) has been demonstrated to confer a more aggressive behavior to PTC. Lymphocytic infiltration is often present in PTC.

Objective: Previous observational studies have suggested associations between various inflammatory cytokines with type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy. However, the causal association remains uncertain.

Method: Summary statistics for type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy were obtained from a publicly available genome-wide association study.

Cellular senescence is a biological mechanism of aging and age-related diseases. The aim of this study was to examine whether senescence biomarkers are associated with frailty and physical function trajectories in patients undergoing kidney transplantation (KT). We also discussed the relationship between senescence biomarkers and KT function.
