Article Abstract

Locking of two resonance modes of different symmetry classes and different frequencies in 2D resonant microcavity lasers is investigated by using a nonlinear dynamical model. The patterns of stationary lasing states and far fields are asymmetric in spite of the symmetric shape of the resonant microcavity. The corresponding phenomenon is actually observed in the experiment of a 2D semiconductor microcavity laser diode.

Experimental and numerical study has been performed for three techniques of mode-locking in all-fiber Holmium laser. We have compared the fundamental repetition rate pulsed generation for mode-locking based on: nonlinear polarization evolution, polymer-free single-walled carbon nanotubes, and hybrid mode-locking. Experimental and numerical simulation results demonstrated the shortest pulse duration and maximum spectrum width for mode-locking based on the nonlinear polarization evolution: 1.

Optical microcavity billiards are a paradigm of a mesoscopic model system for quantum chaos. We demonstrate the action and origin of ray-wave correspondence in real and phase space using far-field emission characteristics and Husimi functions. Whereas universality induced by the invariant-measure dominated far-field emission is known to be a feature shaping the properties of many lasing optical microcavities, the situation changes in the presence of sources that we discuss here.

We implement the lasing eigenvalue problem (LEP) approach to study the electromagnetic field in the presence of a circular quantum wire (QW) made of a gain material and wrapped in graphene cover and a dimer of two identical graphene-covered QWs, at the threshold of stationary emission. LEP delivers the mode-specific eigenvalue pairs, namely the frequencies and the threshold values of the QW gain index for the plasmon and the wire modes of such nanolasers. In our analysis, we use quantum Kubo formalism for the graphene conductivity and classical Maxwell boundary-value problem for the field functions.

We investigate the formation of rotational coherence of N2+ resonantly interacting with an intense femtosecond laser field by numerical simulations based on a strong-field ionization-coupling model described with the density matrix formalism. The created N2+ system is unique in many aspects: the variable total population within the pump duration due to the intensity-dependent ionization injection, the readily accessible resonance owing to the effect of Stark shift, and the involvement of a few dozen of quantum states. By regarding the N2+ system as an open and non-stationary Λ-type cascaded multi-level system, we quantitatively studied the dependence of rotational coherence in different electronic-vibrational states of N2+ on the alignment angle θ and the pumping intensity.

Modern high-power lasers exhibit a rich diversity of nonlinear dynamics, often featuring nontrivial co-existence of linear dispersive waves and coherent structures. While the classical Fourier method adequately describes extended dispersive waves, the analysis of time-localised and/or non-stationary signals call for more nuanced approaches. Yet, mathematical methods that can be used for simultaneous characterisation of localized and extended fields are not yet well developed.
