The toxicity of Prednisolone farnesylate (PNF) gel, a synthetic glucocorticoid, was investigated in the Beagle dog. PNF gel was administered percutaneously at doses of 0.05, 0.2 and 0.8 mg/kg/day for 52 weeks, then the drug was with held for 8 weeks to evaluate reversibility. The results are summarized in the following. 1. In the 0.05 mg/kg/day and above groups, hypotrichosis in the application site of the skin, thinning of the skin and atrophy of the appendages, and in the 0.2 mg/kg/day and above groups a tendency toward retarded body weight gain, were observed. 2. In the 0.2 mg/kg/day and above groups, a drop in the lymphocyte ratio, a rise in GOT activity and A1P level, and in the 0.8 mg/kg/day group a rise in free fatty acid were observed. 3. In the 0.2 mg/kg/day group and above groups, atrophy of the zona fasciculata and zona reticularis were observed. In the 0.8 mg/kg/day group, a decrease in the weight of the thymus and adrenal glands, and a increase in the weight of the liver, were observed. 4. At the end of the recovery period, most of the changes disappeared, except for those in the adrenals and treated area. From the above results, under the conditions of this study, it was concluded that when the changes observed in the application site of the skin in each group were not taken into consideration, the toxicological no effect level was 0.05 mg/kg/day for both males and females and the overt toxic dose level was 0.8 mg/kg/day.

Since the invention and commercialization of poly(-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers, numerous breakthroughs in applications have been realized both in the military and aerospace industries, attributed to its superb properties. Particularly, PBO nanofibers (PNFs) not only retain the high performance of PBO fiber but also exhibit impressive nanofeatures and desirable processability, which have been extensively applied in extreme scenarios. However, no review has yet comprehensively summarized the preparation, applications, and prospective challenges of PNFs to the best of our knowledge.

This study investigated the rheological and tribological properties of cold beverages [bottled water (BW), sports drink (SD), orange juice (OJ), and whole milk (WM)] thickened with various concentrations (1%, 2%, and 3%, w/w) of xanthan gum-based food thickeners. All thickened beverages exhibited high pseudoplastic behavior, with increasing thickener concentration leading to higher viscosity and viscoelastic moduli and a lower flow behavior index. Thickened BW, SD, and WM exhibited typical Stribeck curves covering the boundary, mixed, and hydrodynamic lubrication regimes.

Injectable hydrogels, providing sustained release as implanted materials, have received tremendous attention. In this study, chitosan-based hydrogels were prepared via Schiff base reaction of the aldehyde groups on Poly(NIPAM-co-FBEMA) and the amine groups on chitosan. Owing to the dynamic covalent linkage, the SC/PNF hydrogels exhibit pH-responsive, reversible sol-gel transition, injectable, and self-healing capacity.

Biomedical devices such as islet-encapsulating systems are used for treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Despite recent strides in preventing biomaterial fibrosis, challenges remain for biomaterial scaffolds due to limitations on cells contained within. The study demonstrates that proliferation and function of insulinoma (INS-1) cells as well as pancreatic rat islets may be improved in alginate hydrogels with optimized gel%, crosslinking, and stiffness.

With the rapid development of 5G information technology, thermal conductivity/dissipation problems of highly integrated electronic devices and electrical equipment are becoming prominent. In this work, "high-temperature solid-phase & diazonium salt decomposition" method is carried out to prepare benzidine-functionalized boron nitride (m-BN). Subsequently, m-BN/poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) nanofiber (PNF) nanocomposite paper with nacre-mimetic layered structures is prepared via sol-gel film transformation approach.
