Adnexal torsion in middle childhood: a rare cause of abdominal pain.

Adnexal torsion is a rare cause of abdominal pain in middle childhood and, in general, the diagnosis is often delayed due to the lack of specificity of symptoms and imaging tests. We describe the case of a girl in middle childhood who came to the emergency department for pain in the right iliac fossa of approximately 15 hours of evolution associated with partial refusal of food intake and vomiting. The initial examination showed normal vital signs, a soft abdomen, pain on palpation in the lower region, but no signs of peritoneal irritation, a mild leucocytosis with no other signs of infection and the initial abdominal ultrasound showed no objective pathology.

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor (PMT) is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor characterized by excessive secretion of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), leading to phosphate loss and systemic osteomalacia. Despite recent progress in PMT research, no consensus on diagnosis and treatment guidelines has been established. This case series describes the clinical and pathological features of six pathologically confirmed PMT patients treated at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from 2010 to 2024, aiming to provide new insights for the management of this condition.

The presence of the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas system in the superbug presents a unique opportunity to precisely target and edit bacterial genomes to modify their drug resistance. The objective was to detect the prevalence of CRISPR in extensively and pan-drug-resistant and to determine the utility of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) for the analysis of the entire genome for such strains. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of one hundred isolates were assessed using the antibiotic susceptibility test (AST) card of the VITEK system.

To preoperatively identify patients at risk of positive margins, a multivariable model has been developed that predicts positive margins after BCS with a high accuracy. The trichomes of mustard leaves have significance due to their ability to combat unfavorable external conditions and enhance disease resistance. It was demonstrated that the MYB-bHLH-WD40 (MBW) ternary complex consists of MYB, basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH), and WD40-repeat (WD40) family proteins and plays a key role in regulating trichome formation and density. The bHLH gene family, particularly the Myelocytomatosis (MYC) proteins that possess the structural bHLH domain (termed bHLH-MYC), are crucial to the formation and development of leaf trichomes in plants.
