The decreased activity of carbapenems against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the presence of eluates from siliconized latex urinary catheters is related to the loss of OprD and the expression of a new outer membrane protein (OMP). To understand this phenomenon, the activity of carbapenems and quinolones against P. aeruginosa strains, some producing AmpC beta-lactamase (BL), OprD, MexA-MexB-OprM and MexE-MexF-OprN, were determined in Mueller-Hinton broth (MH) and in MH-containing eluates. OMP profiles and BL activities were also studied. Resistance to imipenem in P. aeruginosa grown in eluate is due to both the loss of OprD and expression of BL. For meropenem this phenomenon is related to both the loss of OprD and the integrity of MexA-MexB-OprM.

Background: We aimed to describe the epidemiology, cross-transmission, interventions, and outcomes of carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) infections in the hematological malignancies (HM) department of a hospital in China.
Methods: This prospective study was divided into three stages from 2014 to 2022: Period 1 (from 1 January 2014 to 4 March 2021), Period 2 (from 5 March 2021 to 31 December 2021), and Period 3 (from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022), with different measures implemented at each stage to evaluate the rate of new infections. The risk factors, epidemiological characteristics, data from all patients with CRKP, NGS gene sequencing molecular epidemiology analysis, and cross-transmission were described.

Essential oils (EOs) exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activities; however, their clinical application is hindered by challenges, such as variability in chemical composition and chemical/physical instability. A critical limitation is the lack of chemical consistency across EO samples, which impedes standardization. Despite this, evidence suggests that EOs with differing chemical profiles often display similar (micro)biological activities, raising the possibility of standardizing EOs based on their biological effects rather than their chemical composition.

Colonization by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and related bloodstream infections (BSI) are associated with a high rate of mortality in patients with hematological malignancies after intensive chemotherapy and allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). In this retrospective study, we analyzed the outcomes of patients colonized with MDR bacteria (primarily carbapenem-resistant , KPC), before allo-SCT. We also investigated the feasibility and safety of an antimicrobial de-escalating approach in these patients.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the status of carbapenem-resistant strains of isolated from the Department of Microbiology, Zhejiang Tongde Hospital between September 2023 and February 2024, and to examine the in vitro antibacterial effect of Reduning combined with polymyxin on carbapenem-resistant (CRKP), which may provide evidence on the application of Reduning in the clinical anti-infective therapy.
Methods: A total of 50 different isolates of CRKP were collected, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of polymyxin, Reduning and polymyxin plus Reduning were measured with microbroth dilution method. Then, the fractional inhibition concentration index (FICI) was calculated.
