Ethical problems arising from the application of assisted reproductive technology are discussed for four specific areas, namely embryo research, multiple pregnancies, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) for social sexing, and finally PGD with HLA typing.

Motivation: Artificial intelligence (AI) applications require explainability (XAI) for FAIR, ethical deployment, whether in the clinic or in the laboratory. Richly descriptive XAI metadata representing how pre-model data were obtained, characterized, transformed, and distributed, should be available along with the data prior to training and application of AI models.
Results: The FAIRSCAPE framework generates, packages, and integrates critical pre-model XAI descriptive metadata, including deep provenance graphs and data dictionaries with feature validation on uploaded data, software, and computations, with special reference to biomedical datasets.

Background: Genetic variation in the non-recombining part of the human Y chromosome has provided important insight into the paternal history of human populations. However, a significant and yet unexplained branch length variation of Y chromosome lineages has been observed, notably amongst those that are highly diverged from the human reference Y chromosome. Understanding the origin of this variation, which has previously been attributed to changes in generation time, mutation rate, or efficacy of selection, is important for accurately reconstructing human evolutionary and demographic history.

Background: Non-pharmacological dementia research products, such as social and behavioural interventions, are generated in traditional university settings. These often experience challenges to impact practices that they were developed for. The Netherlands established five specialized academic health science centres, referred to as Alzheimer Centres, to structurally coordinate and facilitate the utilization of dementia research knowledge.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) effectively treats Parkinson's disease (PD) motor symptoms, highlighting a gap in understanding current research trends and future directions. This study aims to analyze DBS literature systematically using bibliometric methods to map trends and identify opportunities. A total of 6,041 publications on DBS for PD from 1993 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on July 24, 2023.
