[Mandibular condyle fractures in childhood--the clinico-roentgenological follow-up].

Dtsch Zahn Mund Kieferheilkd Zentralbl

Klinik für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferkrankheiten, Universitätskrankenhaus Eppendorf.

Published: April 1993

In a clinical and roentgenographical follow-up study in 35 children, who had suffered a fracture of the condylar process of the lower jaw, the following observations were made on the average 61 months after conservative treatment: The clinical outcome ranged from "satisfactory function" to "restitutio ad integrum". Best results were achieved after unilateral displaced fractures, while only few children showed a "restitutio ad integrum" after bilateral fractures or/and after fracture dislocations. In children, who were less than 8 years old, the results were much better than in older ones. Roentgenographically the morphological regeneration after fracture dislocations was frequently incomplete--in the contrary to fractures with displacement.

Hereditary pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (hPAP) is a rare lung-related primary immunodeficiency. In hPAP, variants of genes encoding the heterodimeric GM-CSF receptor alpha or beta-chains (CSF2Rα, CSF2Rβ) lead to perturbations in GM-CSF signalling. These perturbations impair the scavenging function of pulmonary alveolar macrophages leading to accumulation of surfactant proteins and lipids within the alveoli.

Article Synopsis
  • Glans necrosis is an extremely rare complication post-circumcision in adult males, with only a few cases documented.
  • Two cases are presented involving a 19-year-old and a 26-year-old, both treated successfully with oral medications and without needing hospitalization.
  • Factors like penile dorsal anaesthetic blocks and cautery techniques have been linked to this complication, but there's no clear agreement on the best management approach, as outcomes have generally been favorable despite varying treatments.

Renal arterial resistance index before and after vericiguat administration: Should it be considered the fantastic five?

Department of Translational Medical Sciences, Section of Cardiology, University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Naples, Italy; Cardiology Unit, Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria "Luigi Vanvitelli", Piazza Miraglia, 80138 Naples, Italy.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic-progressive disease. Once established, it is almost impossible to obtain a restitutio ad integrum of the cardiac function, but current strategies aim at slowing down the progression towards the terminal stages of the disease, which inevitably lead to the exitus. On the basis of these considerations, it appears clear that pharmacological interventions applied in this clinical condition should prevent first the development of the disease, by controlling the risk factors for HF thus reducing the onset of the disease, second slowing the disease evolution towards the terminal phases thus containing clinical symptoms and reducing the number of hospitalizations.

  • * While it’s tough to completely fix these issues, sending kids to special care centers can really help improve their lives and make things easier for their families.

Background: Proximal humeral fractures are a relatively common injury in childhood and adolescence, accounting for 0.45-2% of all fractures [2, 18]. Treatment is usually conservative but is still the subject of a scientific debate [9, 12].
