Background: Myxosarcoma is an unusual form of primary cardiac malignancy with few reports in the literature. Although these tumours occur in a similar anatomical distribution to cardiac myxoma, the relationship between these two tumours is uncertain due largely to the limited studies available that characterise the morphological features of myxosarcoma.
Materials And Methods: The clinical and pathological features, including immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies of cardiac myxosarcoma, in a 58-year-old male who died eight months after onset of symptoms are reported.
Results: At presentation the tumour was sited in the right ventricle and at post-mortem was found to have extended into the right atrium, pulmonary infundibulum, pulmonary artery, pericardium and pleural cavities. Histologically the tumour was composed of spindle and stellate cells within a myxoid stroma. Ultrastructural studies showed abundant intermediate filaments and vacuoles within the tumour cell cytoplasm, without any evidence of muscle differentiation. Immunohistochemical staining for vimentin and myoglobin was positive, while there was negative expression of desmin, smooth muscle actin, factor VIIIa, CD34, CD68, S-100 protein, bcl-2 and for epithelial markers.
Conclusion: Comparison of the morphological findings from the present case with the limited data available suggests that myxosarcoma is not a single tumour entity but a group of tumours of diverse histogenesis.

Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) encompasses both explained and unexplained infant fatalities. When a comprehensive investigation yields inconclusive results, the case is classified as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). On the other hand, the most frequent non-SIDS diagnoses may be attributed to specific causes of death including a heterogeneous spectrum of conditions and disorders (e.

Only a few human ovarian endometrioid carcinoma cell lines are currently available, partly due to the difficulty of establishing cell lines from low-grade cancers. Here, using a cell immortalization strategy consisting of i) inactivation of the p16-pRb pathway by constitutive expression of mutant cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (R24C) (CDK4) and cyclin D1, and ii) acquisition of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) activity, we established a human ovarian endometrioid carcinoma cell line from a 46-year-old Japanese woman. That line, designated JFE-21, has proliferated continuously for over 6 months with a doubling time of ~ 55 h.

Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is one of the most severe clinical manifestations of human adenovirus ocular surface infection, which may lead to the formation of subepithelial infiltrates (SEIs) in the anterior corneal stroma in 20-50 % of cases. SEIs may be asymptomatic or give rise to corneal aberrations and visual impairment for months or years after acute infection, despite treatments. Here, we describe the ultrastructural and immunophenotypic features of the anterior corneal stroma of a patient who underwent superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) surgery to remove corneal opacities related to clinically significant and steroid-unresponsive, long-lasting SEIs after adenoviral EKC.

Background: Skin melanoma is a highly metastatic cancer with an increasing global incidence. Despite advancements in immunotherapy, new treatment strategies based on tumor biology are essential for improving outcomes and developing novel therapies. Autophagy plays a critical role in melanoma cell metabolism and affects the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a hazardous endocrine disruptor released into the environment during the production of certain plastics used for covering of food and beverage cans. In this work, we examined the protective benefits of selenium (Se) against intestinal damage induced by BPA in male rats. Rats were distributed randomly into four groups.
