Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the lung is very rare. To date, only 32 reports of 63 cases of primary MFH of the lung have appeared in English, excluding tumors arising from the pulmonary arteries and pleura. We describe a patient with primary MFH of the lung who developed brain metastasis and involvement of pulmonary great vessels. In addition, we reviewed previously reported cases to establish the clinical characteristics and most appropriate management of primary pulmonary MFH. When disease is sufficiently limited, complete resection remains the mainstay of treatment.

The cytotoxic effects of water-based ferrofluids composed of iron oxide nanoparticles, including magnetite (FeO) and maghemite (γ-FeO), ranging from 15 to 100 nm, were examined on various lung cancer cells including adenocarcinomic human alveolar basal epithelial cells (A549), nonsmall lung squamous cell carcinoma (H1703), small cell lung cancer cells (DMS 114), and normal bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B). The cytotoxic effect was evaluated both with and without exposure to an alternating magnetic field (AMF). The studies revealed that neither AMF nor iron oxide nanoparticles when tested individually, produced cytotoxic effects on either cancerous or noncancerous cells.

Polyploidy and metastasis are associated with a low probability of disease-free survival in cancer patients. Polyploid cells are known to facilitate tumorigenesis. However, few data associate polyploidization with metastasis.

Background: Light transmission aggregation (LTA) is used widely by the clinical and research communities. Although it is a gold standard, there is a lack of interlaboratory harmonization.
Objectives: The primary objective was to assess whether sources of activators (mainly adenosine diphosphate [ADP], collagen, arachidonic acid, epinephrine, and thrombin receptor activating peptide6) and ristocetin contribute to poor LTA reproducibility.

Magnetic fluid hyperthermia (MFH) is a promising therapeutic strategy that targets malignant tissues by heating to 40-43 °C using magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) subjected to an alternating magnetic field (AMF). In this study, novel magnetic iron(III) oxide nanoparticles doped with magnesium (Mg-γ-FeO(mPEG-silane)) were synthesized, and their structural, chemical, and magnetic properties were analyzed using the following techniques: Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, vibrating magnetometer analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The as-synthesized MNPs were used as water ferrofluids for MFH under an AMF in two calorimetric setups, namely phantom and lung cancer cell (A549) models.
