Plantar epidermoid cysts with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection are not rare in Japan. Most of them show the cytopathic effect of HPV type 60 - homogeneous intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies. Our case presented a plantar epidermoid cyst with vacuolation around the granular cell layer without any features of HPV type 60. In situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction followed by DNA sequencing analysis revealed an association with HPV type 57.

We present the case of a 36-year-old paraplegic woman with a history of spinal cord injury who developed a generalized blistering rash, later diagnosed as bullous pemphigoid (BP). During her hospitalization, she was treated with prednisone and rituximab infusions, transitioning to maintenance therapy with topical steroids, doxycycline, and nicotinamide. A year later, she presented with concerns about a BP flare on her feet.

The semi-aquatic North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) has the unique challenge of navigating slippery algae-coated rocks. Unlike other river otter species, each rear paw of the North American river otter has a series of soft, circular, and keratinized plantar pads similar to the felt pads on the boots of fly fishermen. Surrounding these soft pads is a textured epidermal layer.
