To study the cells of origin of corticothalamic inputs to the ventral posterior and posterior medial nuclei of the somatosensory thalamus in rats, we injected small aliquots of tracer into each nucleus and analyzed the pattern of retrograde labeling in the posteromedial barrel subfield of primary somatosensory cortex, which can be divided into barrel and nonbarrel zones. The ventral posterior nucleus is innervated by neurons in layer VIa of both zones, whereas the posterior medial nucleus is innervated by neurons in layers Vb and VIb of both zones with additional innervation from layer VIa of nonbarrel cortex. Thus, only the posterior medial nucleus receives a layer Vb input. Because the layer Vb input is interpreted as the initiation of a feedforward cortico-thalamocortical pathway, this implies that the target of the posterior medial nucleus, which includes the nonbarrel cortex, is a higher-order cortical area. We thus suggest that this cortical zone, which is classically considered part of the primary somatosensory cortex, should be reclassified as higher-order cortex.

The primary weight-bearing structure of the proximal femur, trabecular bone, has a complex three-dimensional architecture that was previously difficult to comprehensively display. This study examined the spatial architecture of trabecular struts in the coronal, sagittal, and horizontal sections of the proximal femur using 21 cases prepared with P45 sectional plasticization. The primary compressive strut (PCS) exhibited a "mushroom-like" shape with upper and lower parts.

Instability remains one of the most common indications for revision after total knee arthroplasty. To gain a better understanding of how an implant will perform in vivo and support surgeons in selecting the most appropriate implant design for an individual patient, it is crucial to evaluate the implant constraint within clinically relevant ligament and boundary conditions. Therefore, this study investigated the constraint of three different implant designs (symmetrical implants with and without a post-cam mechanism and an asymmetrical medial-stabilized implant) under anterior-posterior shear forces and internal-external rotation moments at different flexion angles in human cadaveric knees using a six-degrees-of-freedom joint motion simulator.

Objective: To measure and analyze the relationships among the posterior tibial slope (PTS), meniscal slope (MS), and meniscus posterior horn thickness (MPHT) of the medial and lateral tibial plateau in healthy people and patients with anteromedial osteoarthritis (AMOA) in Heilongjiang province, so as to provide reference basis for appropriate tibial osteotomy and prosthesis placement angles in knee joint surgeries.
Methods: A retrospective collection of imaging data from knee joint MRI examinations conducted prior to AMOA for various reasons was performed. A total of 103 healthy individuals (healthy group) and 30 AMOA patients (AMOA group) were included.
