Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a severe neurological injury during infancy, often resulting in long-term cognitive deficits. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Edaravone (EDA), a free radical scavenger, and elucidate the potential role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in mediating these effects in neonatal HIE rats. Using the Rice-Vannucci model, HIE was induced in neonatal rats, followed by immediate administration of EDA after the hypoxic-ischemic insult.

Background: Lung cancer represents a significant global health concern and constitutes the primary cause of cancer-related mortality. Complete surgical resection with curative intent remains the most efficacious treatment modality for improving the survival rate of patients with localized lung cancer. Average life expectancy has increased in many countries, and the number of older patients undergoing surgery has increased.

Elevated HbA1c, a marker of poor glycemic control, is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes and mortality. HbA1c influences outcomes through distinct mechanisms of vascular dysfunction and atherosclerosis in ischemic stroke, during atrial remodeling and thrombus formation in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). Optimal HbA1c thresholds are generally below optimal levels, with levels above this being linked to higher mortality in both populations.

Background: Trauma systems provide comprehensive care across various settings, from prehospital services to rehabilitation, integrating clinical and social care aspects. Established in the 1970s, these systems are pivotal yet under-researched in their operational management. This study aims to fill this gap by focussing on the integration of operations management (OM) techniques to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of trauma systems.

Background: The outcomes of patients with infective endocarditis (IE)-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) are poorly understood.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in a tertiary hospital in China to analyze the short- and long-term outcomes among patients with IE-associated AKI. The risk factors for 90-day mortality, long-term outcomes and kidney non-recovery were analyzed via multivariable logistic regression, the Cox regression, and the Fine-Gray competing risk model, respectively.
