I show how the holographic entropy bound can be derived from elementary flat-spacetime quantum field theory when the total energy of Fock states is constrained gravitationally. This energy constraint makes the Fock space dimension (whose logarithm is the maximum entropy) finite for both bosons and fermions. Despite the elementary nature of my analysis, it results in an upper limit on entropy in remarkable agreement with the holographic bound, and also provides a microscopic deviation of a more general entropy bound recently introduced by Gour.

This study investigates the effect of microstructural changes in polyurethane coatings on their water resistance properties. Polyurethane coatings with varying diluent contents were prepared and tested for water penetration resistance and mechanical property retention. The time-dependent behavior of water within the coatings at different immersion durations was analyzed using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Fundamental Limits of an Irreversible Heat Engine.

Entropy (Basel)

Center for Advanced Control and Smart Operations, Nanjing University, Suzhou 215163, China.

We investigated the optimal performance of an irreversible Stirling-like heat engine described by both overdamped and underdamped models within the framework of stochastic thermodynamics. By establishing a link between energy dissipation and Wasserstein distance, we derived the upper bound of maximal power that can be delivered over a complete engine cycle for both models. Additionally, we analytically developed an optimal control strategy to achieve this upper bound of maximal power and determined the efficiency at maximal power in the overdamped scenario.

Predictive Complexity of Quantum Subsystems.

Entropy (Basel)

Department of Physics, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742-4111, USA.

We define predictive states and predictive complexity for quantum systems composed of distinct subsystems. This complexity is a generalization of entanglement entropy. It is inspired by the statistical or forecasting complexity of predictive state analysis of stochastic and complex systems theory but is intrinsically quantum.

On the Capacity of the Peak-Limited and Band-Limited Channel.

Entropy (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 3200003, Israel.

We investigate the peak-power limited (PPL) Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels in which the signal is band-limited, and its instantaneous power cannot exceed the power . This model is relevant to many communication systems; however, its capacity is still unknown. We use a new geometry-based approach which evaluates the maximal entropy of the transmitted signal by assessing the volume of the body, in the space of Nyquist-rate samples, comprising all the points the transmitted signal can reach.

Control Power in Continuous Variable Controlled Quantum Teleportation.

Entropy (Basel)

State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing 100876, China.

Controlled quantum teleportation is an important extension of multipartite quantum teleportation, which plays an indispensable role in building quantum networks. Compared with discrete variable counterparts, continuous variable controlled quantum teleportation can generate entanglement deterministically and exhibit higher superiority of the supervisor's authority. Here, we define a measure to quantify the control power in continuous variable controlled quantum teleportation via Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type entangled coherent state channels.
