Hospital-acquired legionellosis is a major problem. In Italy this issue is still underestimated because the reported figures are lower than the actual cases. This is probably due to a lack of diagnosis and monitoring. In Sicily, no cases of hospital-acquired legionellosis were reported in the last few years. In the year 2001, a reference laboratory was set up to help health authorities monitor and prevent hospital-acquired legionellosis. The authors report the data concerning a measure of environmental monitoring and water treatment carried out in a hospital where no legionellosis was ever detected before.

Introduction: Immunocompromised patients are at an increased risk of severe legionella infections. We present the results of an outbreak investigation initiated following a fatal case of hospital-acquired legionellosis linked to contaminated water from a toilet-flushing cistern. Additionally, we provide experimental data on the growth of Legionella spp.

Legionellosis is a respiratory disease of bacterial and environmental origin that usually presents two distinct clinical entities, "Legionnaires' disease" (LD) and "Pontiac fever". LD is an important cause of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). The objective of this study is to describe the epidemiology of legionellosis-associated hospitalization (L-AH) in Spain from 2002 to 2021 and the burden of hospitalization due to legionellosis.

In children, the incidence of Legionnaires' disease (LD) is unknown, hospital-acquired LD is associated with clinical risk factors and environmental risk, and children with cell-mediated immune deficiency are at high risk of infection. Both newborns were born in the same delivery room; stayed in the same hospital room where they were cared for, bathed, and breastfed; were male; were born on time, with normal birth weight, and with high Apgar score at birth; and survived this severe infection (, serogroup 2-15) but with different clinical courses. In neonate 1, bleeding in the brain, thrombosis of deep pelvic veins, and necrosis of the lungs, which left behind cystic and cavernous changes in the lungs, were found, while neonate 2 suffered from pneumonia alone.

Background: Legionellosis is a collective term used for disease caused by Legionella species which result in community and hospital acquired pneumonia worldwide. The aim of this analysis was to describe the epidemiology of legionellosis hospitalisations in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) over a 21-year period and quantify the health care costs.
Method: This study combined national legionellosis notification and hospital discharge data that were linked via the National Health Index (NHI) to provide a more complete dataset of hospitalised cases.

Introduction: In case of a contamination of water-supplying systems in hospitals with legionella, usually chemical disinfection measures are used for remediation. Unfortunately, it is reported, that these methods may not be sustainable, have an impact on water quality, and can even fail. As an alternative, the superheat and flush method does not need any special equipment, can be initiated in a short lead of time and does not affect the water quality.
