Preoperative angiography is frequently used in the planning of microsurgical reconstruction. However, several potentially devastating complications can result from angiography, including arterial occlusion and pseudoaneurysm. Computed tomographic angiography is a relatively new technique that can provide detailed information about vascular anatomy as well as soft and bony tissue without the risks of traditional angiography. In addition, three-dimensional image reconstruction uniquely demonstrates anatomical relationships among blood vessels, bones, and soft tissue. Fourteen computed tomographic angiograms were obtained in 10 patients undergoing microsurgical reconstruction of the head and neck, lower extremity, or upper extremity. The average patient age was 46.9 years (range, 22 to 67 years). Charges related to the computed tomographic procedure were compared with those of conventional preoperative imaging for microsurgical repair. At our institution, the average computed tomographic angiogram charge was 1140 US dollars, whereas the average charge for traditional arteriography was 3900 US dollars. When compared with intraoperative evaluation, computed tomographic angiograms demonstrated clinically relevant surgical anatomy. No complications were noted for the radiographic procedure or after free flap reconstruction. Computed tomographic angiography provides high-resolution, three-dimensional arterial, venous, and soft-tissue imaging without the risks of traditional angiogram and at a lower cost.

Aim: To determine bone regeneration following sinus floor elevation (SFE) at sites with or without prior sinus membrane perforation.
Materials And Methods: The sinus membranes in the maxillary sinuses of 12 rabbits were intentionally perforated (≥ 5 mm) on one side, followed by application of a collagen matrix. SFE was performed on both sinuses after 8 weeks of healing, presenting two groups: SFE with a previous large sinus membrane perforation (group SFE_Perf), and in an intact sinus (group SFE).

Background And Objective: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs is a critical global vascular disease. Accurately assessing and predicting the efficacy of DVT treatment remains a significant challenge due to a lack of understanding of the mechanisms by which the level of patient-specific embolization and the rate of drug injection affect thrombolytic therapy.
Methods: In this study, we used the computed tomographic venography (CTV) clinical method to obtain patient-specific parameters, and the flow-solid interaction (FSI) method combined with biochemical response modeling of thrombolysis to analyze patient-specific hemodynamic and biomechanical characteristics and to quantitatively assess the effects of three vessel embolism levels (VEL) versus two drug injection rates (DIR) on bifurcated femoral venous thrombolytic therapy.

Background: The composite physiologic index (CPI) was developed to estimate the extent of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients based on pulmonary function tests (PFTs). The CALIPER-revised version of the CPI (CALIPER-CPI) was also developed to estimate the volume fraction of ILD measured by CALIPER, an automated quantitative CT postprocessing software. Recently, artificial intelligence-based quantitative CT image analysis software (AIQCT), which can be used to quantify the bronchial volume separately from the ILD volume, was developed and validated in IPF.

Background: Schatzker type-4 to 6 tibial plateau fractures most commonly occur when the distal femur is driven through the proximal tibial articular surface. This mechanism of injury can be equivalent to a knee dislocation and carries an increased risk of vascular injury. Our institution screens all Schatzker type-4 to 6 tibial plateau fractures with symmetric pulses for a vascular injury by measuring the ankle-brachial index (ABI).
