Two sensitive and fast spectrophotometric methods using batch and flow-injection procedures for the determination of cimetidine (CMT) are proposed. The methods are based on the formation of a green complex between this drug and Cu(II) in acetic/acetate medium of pH 5.9. The calibration graphs resulting from measuring the absorbance at 330 nm are linear over the ranges 2.5 x 10(-6)-1.0 x 10(-3) and 5 x 10(-6)-2.0 x 10(-3) M with detection limits of 9.5 x 10(-7) and 2.1 x 10(-6) for batch and flow-injection methods, respectively. The methods are applied to the routine analysis of CMT in pharmaceuticals and human urine.

Introduction: Conventional nutritional characterization of legume flours comprises costly and laborious analytical methods for nutrient quantification that establish the quality of seeds, including their macronutrient quantification, fiber, mineral, antioxidant content, and more. The quantification of total polyphenol content (TPC) in legumes is performed using different analytic methods, namely the Folin-Ciocalteu (FC) method, which is lengthy and employs potentially toxic reagents. Additionally, it is time-consuming and prone to human error if carried out in a conventional batch mode.

The silicate (Si) molybdenum blue method was modified by combining oxalate and ascorbic acid into a single reagent and was used for determining Si in sea water samples. The first step of this automated assay protocol was designed to perform either a calibration by a single Si standard prepared in deionized (DI) water, or to dilute samples in the range of 0-160 μM Si to fit into 0-20 μM Si calibration range using a 20 cm flow cell. By designing the assay protocol to function in batch mode, the influence of salinity on calibration was eliminated, thus making the method suitable for analysis of samples collected in the open ocean, coastal areas, or rivers.

Efficient evaluation of adsorption kinetics of plant total polyphenols is essential for the design of adsorption separation of bioactive compounds. The conventional method uses manual sampling with poor reproducibility. Here, we developed a new method for on-line determination of total polyphenol content (TPC) in plant extracts by applying the Folin-Ciocalteu method in flow-injection analysis (FIA).

Concepts of air Segmented Flow Analysis (SFA) and Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) are discussed and compared with the performance of a new method based on comprehensive flow programming. The programmable Flow Injection (pFI), miniaturized on the lab-on-valve platform, can perform tasks that can not be done in any other way, such as Auto calibration by a single standard solution or analysis in a flow-batch mode that exactly simulates the traditional manual batch technique. Performance of pFI is documented by examples of nutrient determinations in sea water.

A thin-layer flow cell of low internal volume (12 μL) is incorporated in a flow injection analysis (FIA) system for simultaneous and real-time photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunoassay of anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike 1 (S1) and anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) antibodies. Covalent linkage of S1 and N proteins to two separate polyethylene glycol (PEG)-covered gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)/TiO nanotube array (NTA) electrodes affords 10 consecutive analyses with surface regenerations in between. An indium tin oxide (ITO) allows visible light to impinge onto the two electrodes.
