Institute of Biosciences, Paulista State University - UNESP, Rio Claro, SP, Brazil.

Published: June 2003

Unlabelled: A study of concentrated attention patterns in epileptic patients was conducted with the objectives: characterization of the patients' epileptic condition; assessment of the concentrated attention levels in epileptic and nonepileptic individuals; comparison of the attention levels of the two groups. An evaluation was performed of 50 adult outpatients with complex partial seizures and 20 non-epileptic individuals (comparative group) at the Neuroepilepsy Ambulatory Unit, State University of Campinas SP, Brazil.

Method: characterization of seizure types, frequency and duration; concentrated attention assessment (Concentrated Attention Test - Toulouse-Pi ron); comparison of the epileptic with non-epileptic individuals.

Results: A statistically significant difference was observed between the groups with regard to Correct Response, Wrong Response and No Response. A difference was observed in relation to Time, but it was statistically insignificant. The epileptic patients presented inferior cognitive performance in relation to concentrated attention when compared with the non-epileptic individuals, findings compatible with the clinical complaints.

The primary concern among adults with regard to their hearing is the difficulty in comprehending speech, particularly in noisy environments. The constant need to listen attentively leads to heightened frustration, fatigue and decreased concentration. According to research, high-frequency hearing loss could have negative implications on speech perception and make it even harder to communicate.

Sulfonamides are receiving increased attention due to their persistence in the environment and potential ecological risks. However, there are currently relatively few studies on the toxicity response of aquatic plants grown under the single and mixed planting methods to sulfadiazine (SD). This study investigated the response of the Vallisneria natans (Lour.

Soil oil pollution is a major environmental issue, especially in oil-producing nations, as it threatens the health of plants, animals, and humans. While bioremediation has been extensively utilized as a cost-effective method for restoring oil-contaminated soil, its environmental impact has garnered relatively little attention. Researchers often concentrate on reducing pollutant concentrations below permissible limits to restore soil quality.

Recently, thallium (Tl) contamination at trace levels has gained worldwide attention, particularly in the remote ore-smelting regions of China. To effectively eliminate the residual target Tl(I) ions, one of the best strategies is to develop novel adsorbents with high selectivity. In this study, we selected silicate mineral waste (SMW) and chitosan (CTS) to synthesize a low-cost composite adsorbent for the removal of trace Tl(I).

The synergies of air quality monitoring program: Information disclosure and pollution control.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Chongqing Environmental Consulting Co., Ltd., CISDI Group Co., Ltd., Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

To deal with the increasingly severe climate crisis and environmental pollution, China launched a nationwide real-time air quality monitoring program in three batches, a milestone moment in its environmental governance history. Using the time-varying difference-in-differences model, this study explores the synergies of this program across 284 cities from 2009 to 2019. The findings are as follows: (1) With environmental information disclosed, the national air quality monitoring program can reduce the outdoor fine particulate matter concentration by an overall effect of 3.
