Allelic frequencies for 12 short tandem repeats (STRs) (F13A01, F13B, FESFPS, LPL, CSF1PO, TPOX, TH01, vWA, D16S539, D7S820, D13S317 and D5S818) were estimated, also as forensic parameters, from a sample of 916 unrelated Brazilian subjects classified into four ethnic groups: European-derived, African-derived, Brazilian Mulattos and Asian-derived.

Population representative short tandem repeat (STR) allele frequencies are crucial for proper probabilistic interpretation of DNA forensic evidence. STR allele frequencies also provide information about the genetic diversity of a given population. The Lebanese population is characterized by the presence of more than 18 religious communities that have high recorded rates of endogamous and consanguineous marriages, where the choice of marriages is mainly influenced by their respective geographical distributions and religious affiliation.

Supplementary short tandem repeats (STRs) can be added to forensic DNA analyses when core markers fail to provide sufficient discrimination power in identity and relationship testing. We combined D6S1043 and Penta B with Promega's PowerPlex CS7 supplementary STR kit, comprising Pentas D and E plus LPL, F13A01, FES/FPS, F13B, and Penta C. The nine STRs were typed in 941 individuals from 51 diverse populations of the CEPH Human Genome Diversity Panel (HGDP-CEPH), and we report allele frequency estimates plus rare alleles identified.

In the present study, we analysed the allelic distribution of 16 autosomal short tandem repeats (STRs) performed on unrelated individuals from seven different Peruvian cities, three highland Andean cities and four coastal ones. The loci investigated were F13A01, FESFPS, vWA, CSF1PO, TPOX, TH01, D16S539, D7S820, D13S317, D5S818, D19S253, F13B, D21S11, LPL and D8S1179 y D3S1358. The allele frequency, statistical parameters, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and population pair comparison across all loci were determinate.

The present Venezuelan population is the product of admixture of Amerindians, Europeans, and Africans, a process that was not homogeneous throughout the country. Blood groups, short tandem repeats (STRs), mtDNA, and Y-chromosome markers have been used successfully in admixture studies, but few such studies have been conducted in Venezuela. In this study we aim to estimate the admixture components of samples from two different socioeconomic levels from Caracas, Venezuela's capital city, compare their differences, and infer sexual asymmetry in the European Amerindian union patterns.

Background: The present Venezuelan population is the admixture product of Amerindians, Europeans and Africans, a process which was not homogeneous over the country. Blood groups, STRs and VNTRs, specifically D1S80, have been used successfully in admixture studies, but few have been made in Venezuela.
Aim: This study aims to estimate the admixture components of Churuguara, Venezuela, and to evaluate the genetic relationship of this population with other Venezuelan as well as worldwide populations through principal component analysis and the study of dendrograms based on genetic distances.
