A patient with superior caval vein compression due to malignant thymoma with infrequent intracavitary cardiac growth is presented. Diagnostic accuracy of cardiac involvement was higher using transesophageal echocardiography compared to transthoracic echocardiography. The majority of the rare intracavitary cardiac thymomas seem to be confined to the right side of the heart.

Introduction: Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) is an essential imaging modality for electrophysiology procedures, allowing intraprocedural monitoring, real-time catheter manipulation guidance, and visualization of complex anatomic structures. Four-dimentional (4D) ICE is the next stage in the evolution of the technology, permitting 360° rotation of the imaging plane, simultaneous multiplanar imaging, and volumetric acquisition, similar to transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). In this study, we report our experience with a novel 4D ICE catheter (NuVision, Biosense Webster) in structural electrophysiology procedures and difficult ventricular ablations in a swine preclinical model.

We present a case of a 72-year-old female patient with dyspnea and lipothymia. Echocardiography demonstrates an intracavitary cystic mass that fills almost all left atria causing supravalvular obstruction. The magnetic resonance image revealed a 53 × 47 × 48 mm heterogeneous mass with regular edges, tissue characterization suggested myxoma.

Background: Lower mini-sternotomy offers the advantage of providing excellent visualization of the 4 cardiac cavities, allowing surgical treatment of aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves as well as any intra-cavitary procedure. Technical issues, as well as safety and echocardiographic results of this approach, are lacking. The aim of this retrospective study was to describe outcomes of lower mini-sternotomy to treat valvulopathies and other intracardiac surgeries.

: COVID-19-related pulmonary complications, such as lung abscesses and pleural empyema, are rare but serious. This study presents a case series of three patients with COVID-19-associated lung abscesses complicated by pleural empyema, managed conservatively with percutaneous intracavitary drainage (ICD) and lavage. We assess the efficacy and safety of this treatment and compare our findings with the current literature.

Since 1995, the concept of atrial cardiomyopathy (ACM) has been associated with myocardial fibrosis. Despite a consensus document in 2016, ACM's definition primarily relies on histopathological findings. The focus on diagnostic criteria for ACM is driven by the potential link to thromboembolic events even independently on atrial fibrillation (AF).
