In the present study, we measured the concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH) and malonyldialdehyde (MDA) and the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione S-transferase (GSH-S-T), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) in erythrocytes obtained freshly from adult male donors which was preserved with CPDA-1 anticoagulant (citrate, phosphate, dextrose, adenine) on different days of storage. At the end of the study, storage-associated alterations in antioxidant activities were noted and discussed. GSH, GSH-Px, GSH-S-T, SOD, CAT and G-6-PD activities decreased, but erythrocyte MDA levels, as anindex of lipid peroxidation, increased during the storage period. According to our results, glutathione-dependent antioxidant systems in erythrocytes might be depleted during long storage in blood bags.

Objectives: Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Emerging evidence suggests that the sumac plant possesses astringent and anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce menstrual bleeding. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of sumac capsules on postpartum bleeding among women at risk of excessive bleeding.

Introduction: The quality of packed red blood cells (PRBC) is influenced by various factors such as the collection and processing method, storage conditions, type of bag materials used, anticoagulant properties, and donor characteristics. Studies have indicated that haemolysis in stored RBC bags is linked to male sex, older age, high haemoglobin count, and increased body mass index (BMI). The study's primary objective was to investigate whether a high BMI, as per Asian Pacific criteria among donors, is associated with an elevated haemolysis rate in stored RBC.

Background: Evaluation of additive solutions, storage containers, new collection and storage methods, and other potential modifications is resource intensive, resulting in diversion of platelets away from blood bank inventories and significant time to complete study recruitments. Our goal was to evaluate the feasibility of a small bag for the study of platelet storage, and, by using a standardized respirometry test, separate daily metabolic capacity from observations made in the dynamic storage environment of changing pH, fuels, and end products.

Methods: Single-donor apheresis platelets collected in 100% plasma had small volumes removed to meet secondary processing requirements.
