Objective: To study tolerance to transpyloric enteral nutrition (TEN) and the incidence of secondary complications in critically-ill children.
Patients And Methods: We performed a prospective, observational study between 1994 and 2002 of all critically-ill children admitted to our pediatric intensive care unit who received TEN. Tolerance and complications were analyzed.
Results: Of 286 patients aged between 3 days and 17 years who received TEN, gastrointestinal complications occurred in 13.6 %, abdominal distention and/or excessive gastric residue in 8 % and diarrhea in 6.3 %. Diarrhea was associated with shock (p 0.01), abdominal distension and/ or excessive gastric residue (p 0.008), hypophosphatemia (p 0.001), and duration of TEN (p < 0.001). TEN was discontinued in 2.1 % of the patients because of gastrointestinal complications. Thirty-two patients (11.2 %) died during TEN. No relationship was found between the characteristics of nutrition and complications and mortality.
Conclusions: TEN is a well tolerated method of nutrition in critically-ill children that produces few complications.

A middle childhood boy with epilepsy exhibited persistent low concentrations of valproic acid, lamotrigine and topiramate for over 1 month, primarily due to pharmacokinetic interactions involving fosphenytoin, meropenem and phenobarbital. Awareness of these clinically significant interactions is crucial for ensuring effective seizure control. However, further research is needed to establish optimal evidence-based treatment strategies in complex paediatric cases.

Executive function (EF) impairments are prevalent in survivors of neonatal critical illness such as children born very preterm (VPT) or with complex congenital heart disease (cCHD). This paper aimed to describe EF profiles in school-aged children born VPT or with cCHD and in typically developing peers, to identify child-specific and family-environmental factors associated with these profiles and to explore links to everyday-life outcomes. Data from eight EF tests assessing working memory, inhibition, cognitive flexibility, switching, and planning in = 529 children aged between 7 and 16 years was subjected into a latent profile analysis.

Examining the co-circulation of various serotypes and finding serotypes linked to illness severity were the main objectives of this study, which sought to investigate the epidemiology and serotype distribution of dengue in Haryana, North India. The cross-sectional study, which was carried out in a tertiary care hospital between September 2021 and April 2023, enrolled participants who met WHO criteria for probable dengue fever. Blood samples underwent molecular and serological diagnostics, such as immunochromatographic testing, VIDAS® Dengue NS1 assays, and TRUPCR® Dengue Detection and serotyping kits, in addition to the collection of clinical and demographic data.

Objective: The management of a child presenting with a critical medical or surgical condition is a scarce event in the pediatric emergency department (PED). In this one year retrospective study, we have tried to better characterize the profile and care pathway of children who had been transferred to the neonatal or pediatric intensive care or critical care units (PICCU) after a visit to the PED, or died in PED.
Methods: Retrospective study of children who has been transferred to PICCU from the two PED of Marseille's University Hospital from the 1 of January 2022 until the 31 of December 2022.

Background: Critical illness not only threatens the life of the patient but also may profoundly impact the lives of their loved ones. For teenagers with a critically ill parent, these impacts may have significant, developmentally impactful effects. A descriptive understanding of these effects may advance scholarly understanding of the challenges these teenagers face.
