Obstet Gynecol Surv

Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine, Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia.

Published: August 2003

Unlabelled: A total of 43 pregnancies that occurred subsequent to endometrial ablation were reported to July 2002. Only 17 of these pregnancies had progressed beyond 20 weeks. We report a successful planned pregnancy following endometrial ablation and sterilization reversal, culminating in vaginal birth after a previous Caesarean section. The English literature has been reviewed to ascertain family planning practices, uterine cavity assessment and pregnancy outcomes after endometrial ablation/resection. Pregnancy management recommendations are provided.

Target Audience: Obstetricians & Gynecologists, Family Physicians.

Learning Objectives: After completion of this article, the reader will be able to list the various pregnancy complications associated with a history of endometrial ablation, and to describe the changes in the endometrial cavity following endometrial ablation.

Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) poses a significant risk for maternal morbidity and mortality. There is a global rise in incidence of PAS in tandem with an increase in rates of cesarian section. Introduction: Early pregnancy care involves the screening and identification of women with risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes, including stillbirth or preterm birth, to tailor pregnancy care and interventions accordingly. Most stillbirths and approximately two-thirds of preterm births, however, occur in the absence of evident risk factors. The majority of stillbirths occur in the preterm period, yet there are few interventions targeting this period, and progress to reduce stillbirth rates remains slow.

Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) poses significant challenges in clinical management due to an unclear etiology in over half the cases. Traditional screening methods, including ultrasonographic evaluation of endometrial receptivity (ER), have been debated for their efficacy in identifying high-risk individuals. Despite the potential of artificial intelligence, notably deep learning (DL), to enhance medical imaging analysis, its application in ER assessment for RPL risk stratification remains underexplored.

: Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Beyond medical treatment, surgical intervention is also a viable consideration. However, current guidelines do not clearly indicate whether laparoscopic cystectomy, ablative methods (CO laser vaporization, plasma energy), or sclerotherapy is the preferred option.

Objective: Endometrial resection and ablation are minimal invasive surgeries used to treat women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Both may be followed by a high reoperation rate up to 24%. However, some studies suggest that this may be improved by adding a levonorgestrel intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) immediately following surgery.
