We propose a new application of voltage gradient measurements to determine specific absorption rate (SAR) at low frequencies where quasi-static electromagnetic conditions apply. This method, which we call the voltage gradient method, relies on direct measurement of the voltage field rather than measurement of the electric field or thermal transients. The voltage gradient method is fast and can be implemented with voltmeters of moderate cost. We tested the voltage gradient method using normal saline, in a phantom with simple geometry, and a sine wave voltage source at 5, 10, 20 and 50 kHz. Compared to the SAR measured thermally in the same phantom, the voltage gradient method produced almost identical curves when normalized. When the results of the voltage gradient method were scaled to the same power level used for the thermal SAR, the agreement was compatible with typical thermal SAR accuracy.

Salinity gradient power (SGP) by reverse electrodialysis is a promising method for converting SGP into electricity. Instead of the conventional approach of using seawater and freshwater, an alternative method involves using highly concentrated salt solutions (brines) alongside seawater or brackish water. Key factors influencing SGP via reverse electrodialysis (SGP-RE) include the properties of ion exchange membranes, particularly their thickness.

Integrated Oxygen-Constraining Strategy for Ni-Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes.

Surface engineering is sought to stabilize nickel-rich layered oxide cathodes in high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries, which suffer from severe surface oxygen loss and rapid structure degradation, especially during deep delithiation at high voltages or high temperatures. Here, we propose a well-designed oxygen-constraining strategy to address the crisis of oxygen evolution. By integrating a La, Fe gradient diffusion layer and a LaFeO coating into the Ni-rich layered particles, along with incorporating an antioxidant binder into the electrodes, three progressive lines of defense are constructed: immobilizing the lattice oxygen at the subsurface, blocking the released oxygen at the interface, and capturing the residual singlet oxygen on the external surface.

Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells, as one of the most promising passivated contact solar cell technologies of the next generation, have the advantages of high conversion efficiency, high open-circuit voltage, low-temperature coefficient, and no potential-induced degradation. For the single-side rear-emitter SHJ solar cells, the n-type carrier selective layer, which serves as the light-incident side, plays a pivotal role in determining the performance of heterojunction devices. Consequently, a superior n-doped layer should exhibit high optical transmittance and minimal optical absorption, along with a substantial effective doping level to guarantee the formation of dark conductivity (σ) and electron-transport capacity.

Artificial ionic nanochannels with light perception capabilities hold promise for creating ionic devices. Nevertheless, most research primarily focuses on regulating single nanochannels, leaving the cumulative effect of numerous nanochannels and their integration underexplored. We herein develop a biomimetic photoreceptor based on photoresponsive highly aligned nanochannels (pHANCs), which exhibit uniform channel heights, phototunable surface properties, and excellent compatibility with microfabrication techniques, enabling the scalable fabrication and integration into functional ionic devices.

One of the most fundamental laws of physics is the principle of least action. Motivated by its predictive power, we introduce a neuronal least-action principle for cortical processing of sensory streams to produce appropriate behavioral outputs in real time. The principle postulates that the voltage dynamics of cortical pyramidal neurons prospectively minimizes the local somato-dendritic mismatch error within individual neurons.
