A plasmid pSDK-1 containing the Escherichia coli phosphofructokinase-1 gene (pfkA) was constructed, and transferred into Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans Tt-7 by conjugation. The pfkA gene from E. coli could be expressed in this obligately autotrophic bacterium but the enzyme activity (18 U g-1) was lower than that in E. coli (K12: 86 U g-1; DF1010 carrying plasmid pSDK-1: 97 U g-1). In the presence of glucose, the Tt-7 transconjugant consumed glucose leading to a better growth yield.

Introduction: Currently, there are few investigations on the effect of a synthetic exogenous quorum sensing (QS) agonist on the bioleaching rate of ().
Methods: We created AHL (N-acyl-homoserine lactone) analogues and investigated their effects on biofilm formation, adsorption kinetics, bioleaching, and mechanism.
Results: The findings revealed that N-(3-thiolactone)- dodecylamine (Y3) significantly increased the biofilm formation of in 96-well plates and sulfur sheets.

Conventional spent lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling procedures, which employ powerful acids and reducing agents, pose environmental risks. This work describes a unique and environmentally acceptable bioleaching method for Li and Mn recovery utilizing , a sulfur-oxidizing bacteria that may produce sulfuric acid biologically. The novel feature of this strategy is the step-by-step addition of biogenic sulfuric acid, which differs significantly from conventional methods that use chemical reagents.

Thirty years since the first report on the PilY1 protein in bacteria, only the C-terminal domain has been crystallized; there is no study in which the N-terminal domain, let alone the complete protein, has been crystallized. In our laboratory, we are interested in characterizing the Type IV Pili (T4P) of . We performed an characterization of PilY1 and other pilins of the T4P of this acidophilic bacterium.

The heavy metal contamination in river and lake sediments endangers aquatic ecosystems. Herein, the feasibility of applying different exogenous mesophile consortiums in bioleaching multiple heavy metal-contaminated sediments from Xiangjiang River was investigated, and a comprehensive functional gene array (GeoChip 5.0) was used to analyze the functional gene expression to reveal the intrinsic association between metal solubilization efficiency and consortium structure.

In recent years, the demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has been increasing rapidly. Conventional recycling strategies (based on pyro- and hydrometallurgy) are damaging for the environment and more sustainable methods need to be developed. Bioleaching is a promising environmentally friendly approach that uses microorganisms to solubilize metals.
