We describe a simple gas expansion ion source based on static discharge voltages and a commercially available pulsed valve. The discharge is initiated by the gas pulse itself between two high voltage electrodes, without the need for fast voltage switches or complex timing schemes. The ion source very reliably produces intense bursts of molecular ions (with currents exceeding 100 μA during the pulse-on phase) with only minor pulse-to-pulse variations in intensity and pulse shape.

Mean middle cerebral artery velocity (MCAv) and the pulsatility index (PI), at rest and in response to exercise, are important markers of cerebrovascular health status in middle-aged adults, when vascular decline assumes substantial relevance. Thus, this study aimed to describe and compare the responses of MCAv and PI to incremental exercise. Cystic cuboid adenomatous malformations (CCAM) are congenital pulmonary lesions, usually benign, that can progress into malignancy. Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) is another type of malformation that consistsof an ectopic pulmonary tissue mass that doesn't participate in blood-gas exchanges, with vascularization provided by anomalous branches of the thoracic aorta. Hybrid lesions are lesions that have histological features of CCAM but with systemic vascularization, a pathognomonic sign of BPS.

The abnormal alternation of pulmonary angiogenesis is related to lung microvascular dysfunction and is deeply linked to vascular wall integrity, blood flow regulation, and gas exchange. In murine models, lung lobes exhibit significant differences in size, shape, location, and vascularization, yet existing methods lack consideration for these variations when quantifying microvascular density. This limitation hinders the comprehensive study of lung microvascular dysfunction and the potential remodeling of microvasculature circulation across different lobules.
