Recent time-reversal experiments with high-frequency transmissions (3.5 kHz) show that stable focusing is severely limited by the time-dependent ocean environments. The vertical focal structure displays dynamic variations associated with focal splitting and remerging resulting in large changes in focal intensity. Numerical simulations verify that the intensity variation is linked to the focal shift induced by phase changes in acoustic waves resulting from sound speed fluctuations due to internal waves. A relationship between focal range shift, frequency shift, or channel depth changes is illustrated using waveguide-invariant theory. Based on the analysis of experimental data and numerical simulations, methods for robust time-reversal focusing are developed to extend the period of stable focusing.

Growth of lithium whiskers or dendrites is the major obstacle towards safe and stable utilization of lithium metal anodes in rechargeable batteries. In this study, we look deeper into the mechanism of lithium electrodeposition. We find that before lithium whisker or dendrite nucleation occurs, lithium is deposited into the grain boundaries of the metal electrode, which we directly observed in the focused ion beam cross-sections of the lithium electrode.

Background: During the course of the past two decades, head-mounted augmented reality surgical navigation (HMARSN) systems have been increasingly employed in a variety of surgical specialties as a result of both advancements in augmented reality-related technologies and surgeons' desires to overcome some drawbacks inherent to conventional surgical navigation systems. In the present time, most experimental HMARSN systems adopt overlain display (OD) that overlay virtual models and planned routes of surgical tools on corresponding physical tissues, organs, lesions, and so forth, in a surgical field so as to provide surgeons with an intuitive and direct view to gain better hand-eye coordination as well as avoid attention shift and loss of sight (LOS), among other benefits during procedures. Yet, its system accuracy, which is the most crucial performance indicator of any surgical navigation system, is difficult to ascertain because it is highly subjective and user-dependent.

Purpose: Stanford Type B Aortic Dissection (TBAD), a critical aortic disease, has exhibited stable mortality rates over the past decade. However, diagnostic approaches for TBAD during routine health check-ups are currently lacking. This study focused on developing a model to improve the diagnosis in a population.

This self-trapped soliton train is leveraged to implement self-referenced multiplex coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (SR-M-CARS) imaging. Simulations and experiments illustrating the filamentation process and the concatenation of focusing-defocusing cycles in ceramic and crystal YAG are presented.

The Byers Peninsula, the largest ice-free area in Maritime Antarctica, is vital for studying landscape-scale natural processes due to its diverse periglacial landforms. This study aim to characterize the soils and environments of its southern sector, focusing on soil-landform-lithology interactions. Thirty-seven soil profiles were classified, collected, and chemically and physically analyzed.
