Unlabelled: PepPat, a hybrid method that combines pattern matching with similarity scoring, is described. We also report PepPat's application in the identification of a novel tachykinin-like peptide. PepPat takes as input a query peptide and a user-specified regular expression pattern within the peptide. It first performs a database pattern match and then ranks candidates on the basis of their similarity to the query peptide. PepPat calculates similarity over the pattern spanning region, enhancing PepPat's sensitivity for short query peptides. PepPat can also search for a user-specified number of occurrences of a repeated pattern within the target sequence. We illustrate PepPat's application in short peptide ligand mining. As a validation example, we report the identification of a novel tachykinin-like peptide, C14TKL-1, and show it is an NK1 (neuokinin receptor 1) agonist whose message is widely expressed in human periphery.

This research work focuses on developing an advanced diagnostic method for thyroid nodules using ultrasonography images. The core idea revolves around the observation that the presence and amount of calcium flecks in thyroid nodules can indicate their severity, potentially leading to severe thyroid cancer. A novel technique, named Bilateral Mean Clustering Strategy (Bi-MCS), is proposed, combining the strengths of Fuzzy C mean and K-mean clustering approaches.

Background And Aims: Follicular-patterned thyroid tumors (FPTTs) are frequently encountered in thyroid pathology, encompassing follicular adenoma (FA), follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP), and follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (fvPTC). Recently, a distinct entity termed differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma has been described by the 5th edition of the WHO classification of the thyroid tumors, categorized as either high-grade fvPTC, high-grade FTC or high-grade oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid (OCA). Accurate differentiation among these lesions, particular between the benign (FA), borderline (NIFTP) and malignant neoplasms (FTC and fvPTC), remains a challenge in both histopathological and cytological diagnoses.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric condition among children and adolescents, often associated with a high risk of psychiatric comorbidities. Currently, ADHD diagnosis relies exclusively on clinical presentation and patient history, underscoring the need for clinically relevant, reliable, and objective biomarkers. Such biomarkers may enable earlier diagnosis and lead to improved treatment outcomes.

Introduction: Dengue viruses (DENVs), the causative agents of dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome, undergo genetic mutations that result in new strains and lead to ongoing global re-infections.
Objectives: To address the growing complexity of identifying and tracking biological samples, this study screened RNA barcode segments for the four DENV serotypes, ensuring high specificity and recall rates for DENV identification using segments.
Results: Through analyzing complete genome sequences of DENVs, we screened eight barcode segments for DENV, DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4 identification.
