Stereolithographic surgical templates for placement of dental implants in complex cases.

In recent years, dental implant rehabilitation has faced demands from prosthetic and esthetic arenas that call for increasingly ideal outcomes, which require precise surgical planning and placement. Anatomic limitations and bone quantity and quality can now be evaluated using more sophisticated radiographic techniques, although transferring this information to the surgical phase has been at best a difficult task. Recently, computer-aided design and manufacturing have made it possible to use data from computerized tomography to not only plan implant rehabilitation, but also to transfer this information to the surgery. One of these techniques uses stereolithography, a laser-driven polymerization process that fabricates an anatomic model and surgical templates. This novel approach is illustrated with two advanced cases, demonstrating that the technique not only allows for the precise translation of the treatment plan directly to the surgical field, but also offers many significant benefits over traditional procedures.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2, also known as ERBB2) signaling promotes cell growth and differentiation, and is overexpressed in several tumor types, including breast, gastric and colorectal cancer. HER2-targeted therapies have shown clinical activity against these tumor types, resulting in regulatory approvals. However, the efficacy of HER2 therapies in tumors with HER2 mutations has not been widely investigated.

Background: Anatomically formed healing abutments were suggested in literature to address many of the issues associated with immediate posterior implant insertion such as large extraction sockets that are extremely hard to seal without reflecting the mucoperiosteal flap, extraction sockets anatomy that are not suitable for regular healing abutment placement, and potentially high occlusal stresses when planning a temporary implant supported prothesis to improve the conditioning of supra implant tissue architecture and the emergence profile of the implant supported restorations.

Purpose: To clinically evaluate the peri-implant soft tissue profile of single posterior implant retained restorations and to assess patient related outcomes of the implant restorations that were conditioned immediately by CAD-CAM socket sealing abutments (SSA) versus those conditioned by Titanium (Ti) standard healing abutments (SHA).

Methods: Twenty participants received twenty-two single maxillary immediate implants after flapless minimally invasive tooth extraction and 3D guided implant placement in the posterior area (premolar and molar) and allocated randomly into two groups (n = 11), the intervention group: patients received PEEK SSA and the control group: the patients received Ti SHA.

Primary-lobe-based trilobed and quadrilobed flaps for reconstruction of nasal tip skin defects.

JPRAS Open

March 2025

Department of Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery, MITERA Hospital, Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG), 6 Erithrou Stavrou str., 151 23 Maroussi, Attica, Greece.

Background: Despite a variety of principles proposed for drawing trilobed and quadrilobed flaps for the reconstruction of nasal skin defects, the application of these principles in a detailed and reliable way remains questionable.

Methods: We present a novel method for drawing trilobed and quadrilobed flaps to cover nasal tip skin defects. The method is based on the use of templates corresponding to four trilobed flaps with overall angles of 60°, 70°, 80°, and 90°, and two quadrilobed flaps with angles of 90° and 105°.

Surgeon oriented reporting template for magnetic resonance imaging and endoanal ultrasound of anal fistulas enhances surgical decision-making.

World J Radiol

December 2024

Department of Ultrasound, First Affiliated Hospital, Hainan Medical University, Haikou 570102, Hainan Province, China.

In this editorial, a commentary on the article by Sudoł-Szopińska has been provided. Successful treatment of anal fistula (AF) relies on accurate diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and endoanal ultrasound (EUS) are important for the AF diagnosis.

Successful engraftment of skin grafts highly depends on the quality of the wound bed. Good quality of blood vessels near the surface is critical to support the viability of the graft. Ischemic, irradiated scar tissue, bone and tendons will not have the sufficient blood supply.
