In order to evaluate the reproducibility of the WHO classification of goitre, the observer variation was estimated as kappa coefficients. Three observers independently inspected and palpated the thyroid gland of 53 patients twice and assessed the thyroid according to the five grades of the WHO classification. The thyroid volume was also measured by ultrasonography. We found kappa values from 0.15 to 0.70 in the interobserver study, and from 0.02 to 0.89 in the intraobserver study. Considerable overlap between the five grades was demonstrated when the assessments were related to volume estimated by ultrasonography. Description of the thyroid gland according to the WHO classification is inaccurate and not reproducible and is therefore of limited value.

The Thr92Ala-Dio2 polymorphism is prevalent worldwide, with about 50% of the population carrying at least one allele. The Ala92-Dio2 allele encodes a less active D2 enzyme and has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases, hypertension, and insulin resistance. To understand why its phenotypic effects are variable across different populations, in this study, we examined the impact of genetic background on the Thr92Ala-Dio2 polymorphism.

Purpose: To evaluate changes in thyroid function post-thermal ablation (TA) of thyroid nodules and to identify risk factors associated with post-ablation thyroid function abnormalities.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of 2,264 cases treated with TA between June 2015 and July 2024 was conducted, including 1,169 benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) and 1,095 papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) cases. Thyrotropin (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), and free thyroxine (FT4) levels were measured before treatment and at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post-ablation.

Objective: This prospective study aimed to analyze the efficacy and safety of fine-needle prick (FNP) in the assessment of parathyroid gland (PG) perfusion during thyroid surgery.
Methods: A total of 147 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) who underwent lobectomy with therapeutic unilateral central lymph node dissection (CLND) performed by the same surgeon at the First Hospital of Jilin University between June and September 2024 were included in this prospective study. Following removal of the thyroid and unilateral central lymph nodes, indocyanine green (ICG) was prepared and administered intravenously.

Objective: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of L. (PVL) preparations combined with antithyroid drugs (ATDs) for the treatment of hyperthyroidism.
Methods: Eight Chinese and English databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing PVL preparations combined with ATDs and ATDs for hyperthyroidism treatment.

Objective: This study aims to elucidate the relationship between thyroid function and surgical prognosis in patients undergoing cardiac and major vascular surgeries.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients undergoing cardiac or major vascular surgeries. Preoperative thyroid function tests, including TSH, free T3, and free T4 levels, as well as postoperative thyroid function tests, were assessed.
