Therapeutic efficacy of surfagon, an analog of LH-RH which was injected subcutaneously at a daily dose of 100 micrograms/kg for 30 days, was investigated in ACI male rats with induced prostatic adenoma. This drug was shown to be effective proceeding from a morphological study and measurement of the prostate. Measurement of blood testosterone levels by radioimmunoassay showed a decrease in this level in rats, treated with surfagon, i. e. a therapeutic effect of the drug in prostatic adenoma was accompanied by a decrease in the level of androgens.

Given the intricacy involved in diagnosing prostatic abscess and the associated risk of severe complications, we present a case involving a 72-year-old male patient initially suspected of urinary retention due to benign prostatic enlargement, only to reveal multiple prostatic abscesses during surgical intervention. The objective is to raise awareness among clinicians regarding the potential presence of latent prostatic abscess and to prevent the occurrence of serious complications. Timely implementation of aggressive antimicrobial therapy and surgical drainage has been shown to significantly enhance patient prognosis and mitigate the risk of serious complications.

The imbalance between estrogen and androgen may be an important mechanism of BPH, but the specific mechanism remains unclear. We used mixed sustained-release pellets made of testosterone and estradiol (T + E) to stimulate the establishment of a BPH rat model. Compared to the prostate hyperplasia rat model using only androgens, the new prostate hyperplasia rat model can be observed to have better macroscopic and pathological characteristics of prostate hyperplasia.
