[Primary adenocarcinoma of the duodenum: a clinical case and review of the literature].

G Chir

II Divisione di Chirurgia Generale, Ospedale Civile di Vicenza.

Published: May 1992

A case of primary duodenal adenocarcinoma recently observed gives the Authors the chance to review the literature. Diagnosis is often delayed because symptomatology is usually vague and non specific, a fact that is even more in contrast with diagnostic techniques, which, on the contrary, are handy and easily performed (endoscopy, duodenography). Surgical resection is the only proposable treatment while no local and distant diffusion has yet showed, otherwise the operation is limited to a digestive and/or biliary derivation. Anyhow, prognosis remains severe.

Background: The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system classifies hepatocellular carcinoma on the basis of tumor characteristics, liver function, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status. Hepatocellular carcinoma is divided into five stages, and the treatment options for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma have evolved in recent years. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization remains the standard treatment for intermediate-stage (stage B) hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: Most patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) develop recurrence. No previous studies have investigated predictors of local-only recurrence following PD for PDAC. Our study aimed to determine timing, pattern and predictors of any-site and local-only recurrence following PD for PDAC.

Vulvar adenocarcinoma of the intestinal type (VAIt) is a rare subtype of primary vulvar carcinoma, with ∼30 cases documented in the English literature. This study presents 2 new cases of HPV-independent VAIt with lymph node metastasis and discusses their clinical presentation, histopathologic features, and whole exome sequencing (WES) analysis. Both cases exhibited histologic features consistent with VAIt, including tubular, papillary, and mucinous carcinoma components.
