Endoscopy is vital for detecting and diagnosing gastrointestinal diseases. Systematic examination protocols are key to enhancing detection, particularly for the early identification of premalignant conditions. Publicly available endoscopy image databases are crucial for machine learning research, yet challenges persist, particularly in identifying upper gastrointestinal anatomical landmarks to ensure effective and precise endoscopic procedures.

Dean's Office, Medical College, Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan; Department of Surgery, Medical College, Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan; Department of Community Health Sciences, Medical College, Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan.

Introduction: While various factors leading to prolonged length of stay (LOS) have been identified for emergency general surgery (EGS), there is limited literature on specific factors for individual emergent specialties. This study aimed to identify patient factors and in-hospital complications associated with prolonged LOS for gastrointestinal (GI) and non-GI-related EGS presentations in a low-resource setting.

Methods: Data from 2010 to 2019 were retrieved from one of the largest tertiary care centers in Pakistan.

Early diagnosis and treatment of gastric mucosal injury is crucial to prevent further gastritis and even canceration. As an efficient biocatalyst, single-atom nanozyme (SAzyme) is proposed to be an ideal candidate for the construction of multifunctional platforms. Nevertheless, SAzyme still faces challenges in detecting and treating diseases due to the complexity of preparation methods, limitations of enzyme activity, and undesirable biocompatibility.

Necrotic enteritis (NE), caused by the gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium, Clostridium perfringens, results in an estimated $6 billion in annual economic losses to the global poultry industry. C. perfringens is part of the normal microflora of the poultry gastrointestinal tract, but damage to the intestinal epithelium can lead to increased cell proliferation and production of toxins which gives rise to disease.

Nowadays, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has emerged as one of the major hazards to the health of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and there is an urgent need for a low-cost, user-friendly, and non-invasive detection method. Herein, a paper-based sensor (CP sensor) for the non-invasive screening of GERD is proposed. The sensor is structured as a specially shaped cellulose paper strip embedded with fluorescent colloids, which are self-assembled from a cleavable synthetic fluorescent polymer (P4).
