AI Article Synopsis

  • A homochiral triple helix structure was created using a special bipyridine compound that has axial chirality along with a linear metal connector.
  • This triple helix can further organize itself into a two-dimensional network due to ongoing pi...pi stacking interactions, which are strong attractive forces between aromatic molecules.
  • The 2D network serves as a host, allowing for the inclusion of other guest molecules within its structure.

Article Abstract

A homochiral triple helix was self-assembled from an axially chiral bipyridine and a linear metal-connecting point, which further assembles into a 2D network via infinite pi...pi stacking interactions and acts as a host for the inclusion of guest molecules.

π-Extended Diaza[7]helicenes with Dual Negatively Curved Heptagons: Extensive Synthesis and Spontaneous Resolution into Strippable Homochiral Lamellae with Helical Symmetry.

We report a unique category of π-extended diaza[7]helicenes with double negative curvatures. This is achieved by two-fold regioselective heptagonal cyclization of the oligoarylene-carbazole precursors through either intramolecular C-H arylation or Scholl reaction. The fusion of two heptagonal rings in the helical skeleton dramatically increases the intramolecular strain and forces the two terminal carbazole moieties to stack in a compressed fashion.

Halogen Interaction Effects on Chiral Self-Assemblies on Cyclodipeptide Scaffolds Across Hierarchy.

How halogenation affects protein or peptide folding and self-assembly hierarchically? This study tries to answer this question by using the halogen bonding mediated self-assemblies on cyclodipeptide scaffolds. Single-functionalized cyclodipeptides (Cyclo-GX) based on para-halogenated phenylalanine in the solid state form homochiral helical nanotubes via consecutive X···O bonds (X = Cl, Br, and I) independent of halogen kinds. In contrast, double-functionalized cyclodipeptides (Cyclo-XX) feature versatile self-assembly architectures depending on the para-substituents (X = H, F, Cl, Br, and I), affording nanotubular, lamellar, and triple helical nanotubular architectures.

Three novel hierarchical Ni-based metallosupramolecular cages were constructed from nickel ions, pyridine dicarboxylates and isophthalate derivative ligands (the substituents on C5 of isophthalate are methyl, tert-butyl and bromo groups). In every cage, two multinuclear nickel clusters, assembled from four nickel atoms and three pyridine dicarboxylate ligands, are interlinked by three isophthalate-derivative ligands to form a nickel-based triple-stranded helicate (TSH), which then becomes the supramolecular building block for the fabrication of a metallocage. Six homochiral TSH supramolecular building blocks, either left (M)-handed or right (P)-handed, are connected by four linking nickel atoms to generate M and P discrete racemic cage molecules (M - cage with six M-TSHs; P - cage with six P-TSHs).

In order to study the emergence of homochirality during complex molecular systems, most works mainly concentrated on the resolution of a pair of enantiomers. However, the preference of homochiral over heterochiral isomers has been overlooked, with very limited examples focusing only on noncovalent interactions. We herein report on of twin-cavity cages (denoted as ) against heterochiral tris-(2-aminopropyl)amine (TRPN) bearing triple stereocenters.
