Published: June 2003

An analysis is provided from 19,265 Physical Evaluation Board diagnoses from 10,406 Navy personnel from 1998 to 2000. The leading diagnostic categories were musculoskeletal and mental disorders as well as for subgroups of women and officers. Musculoskeletal conditions were 41.6% of the diagnoses and decreased with advancing age (42.9% for <30 years; 41.1% for 30-40 years; 37.6% for >40 years; chi2 for trend [1 df] = 26.4; p = 0.000). Mental disorders were 11.8% of the diagnoses and also decreased with advancing age (14.1% for <30 years; 10.4% for 30-40 years; 8.8% for >40 years; chi2 for trend [1 df] = 84; p = 0.000). Diagnoses for injury and poisoning (8.9%), nervous system (7.6%), and ill-defined conditions (4.7%) completed the top five categories below age 40 years, whereas circulatory disorders were evident after age 40 years. These findings suggest priorities for reducing overall medical disability losses in our active duty Navy forces.

Background: Bilateral risk-reducing mastectomies (RRMs) have been proven to decrease the risk of breast cancer in patients at high risk owing to family history or having pathogenic genetic mutations. However, few resources with consolidated data have detailed the patient experience following surgery. This systematic review features patient-reported outcomes for patients with no breast cancer history in the year after their bilateral RRM.

Purpose: During endovascular revascularization interventions for peripheral arterial disease, the standard modality of X-ray fluoroscopy (XRF) used for image guidance is limited in visualizing distal segments of infrapopliteal vessels. To enhance visualization of arteries, an image registration technique was developed to align pre-acquired computed tomography (CT) angiography images and to create fusion images highlighting arteries of interest.

Methods: X-ray image metadata capturing the position of the X-ray gantry initializes a multiscale iterative optimization process, which uses a local-variance masked normalized cross-correlation loss to rigidly align a digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) of the CT dataset with the target X-ray, using the edges of the fibula and tibia as the basis for alignment.

Altitude training has been widely adopted. This study aimed to establish a mice model to determine the time point for achieving the best endurance at the lowland. C57BL/6 and BALB/c male mice were used to establish a mice model of hypoxic training with normoxic training mice, hypoxic mice, and normoxic mice as controls.

Introduction: Patients with end-stage renal disease usually undergo hemodialysis as a way of renal function replacement therapy which comes with a wide array of systemic and cutaneous complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the most frequent dermatological manifestations including xerosis, pruritis and other nail, hair and oral conditions, as these are a very important aspect to be considered while managing the patients psychological and physical needs to improve their outcomes and quality of life.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study was performed by selecting 77 patients on hemodialysis based on a certain criteria and data was then collected on a sheet using patients database on Hakeem National E-Health Program, in addition to information from interviews with patients during their hemodialysis sessions after taking an oral informed consent and insuring patients' privacy.

Background: Physical activity and exercise are promoted worldwide as effective interventions for healthy ageing. Various exercise initiatives have been developed and evaluated for their efficacy and effectiveness among older populations. However, a deeper understanding of participants' experiences with these initiatives is crucial to foster long-term activity and exercise among older persons.
