Hazard Analysis by Critical Control Points (HACCP) is a systematic approach to the identification, assessment, and control of hazards in the food chain. Effective HACCP requires the consideration of all chemical microbiological, and physical hazards. However, current procedures focus primarily on microbiological and physical hazards, while chemical aspects of HACCP have received relatively little attention. In this article we discuss the application of HACCP to organic chemical contaminants and the problems that are likely to be encountered in agriculture. We also present generic templates for the development of organic chemical contaminant HACCP procedures for selected raw food commodities, that is, cereal crops, raw meats, and milk.

The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in anxiety regulation through pathways involving neurotransmitter production, immune signaling, and metabolic interactions. Among these, gut-derived serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), synthesized from tryptophan metabolism, has been identified as a key mediator. However, it remains unclear whether specific microbial factors regulate tryptophan metabolism to influence 5-HT production and anxiety regulation.

Background: Confabulation, the fabrication of details with short lucid intervals, hinders the diagnosis of Alzheimer's and other dementias. This case report explores the complexities of diagnosing and managing Alzheimer's dementia in a culturally diverse patient exhibiting fluctuating memory and confabulation, emphasizing challenges heightened by cultural and linguistic factors.
Case: An 84-year-old African descent man resided with his family in the United States, independent in his basic daily activities but struggling with instrumental tasks due to memory impairment.
Support for the management of cognitive and autonomic features of Lewy body dementia (LBD) is offered in detail in this presentation. The US Based Diamond Lewy Cognitive Symptoms management document presents the unique cognitive profile of LBD with general principles for addressing these features along with detailed guidance in the use of cholinesterase inhibitors and Memantine. The US Based Diamond Lewy Autonomic Symptoms management document addresses the management of common autonomic symptoms including urinary dysfunction, male sexual dysfunction, excessive sweating, constipation, sialorrhea, gastroparesis and orthostatic hypotension in LBD.

Introduction: Punding is a unique stereotypical, repetitive, non-goal-directed behavior characterized by an intense fascination with daily objects. This behavior although commonly seen in dementia patients is relatively less studied. In this study, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of combination treatment of escitalopram and risperidone treatment in the punding behavior of dementia patients.
