Published: July 2003

Distal embolization protection devices are fast becoming an integral part of percutaneous vein graft interventions. The distal elastomeric balloon of the PercuSurge GuardWire system is supposed to be atraumatic to the vessel wall. We report the inadvertent dilation of a moderate distal stenosis at the site of GuardWire balloon inflation while intervening on a critical proximal saphenous vein graft stenosis. This case illustrates that plaque compression and potential vessel wall trauma might occur during the inflation of the PercuSurge GuardWire distal protection balloon.

Background: A precise observation is that the cervix's solid tumors possess hypoxic regions where the oxygen concentration drops below 1.5%. Hypoxia negatively impacts the host's immune system and significantly diminishes the effectiveness of several treatments, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Ischemia and hypoxia caused by vascular injury intensify nerve damage. Skin precursor-derived Schwann cells have demonstrated an accelerated in vivo pre-vascularization of tissue-engineered nerves. Furthermore, extracellular vesicles from skin precursor-derived Schwann cells (SKP-SC-EVs) show the potential in aiding peripheral nerve regeneration.

Computational exploration of injection strategies for improving medicine distribution in the liver.

Comput Biol Med

December 2024

Faculty of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering, University of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran. Electronic address:

Background And Objectives: The liver, a vital metabolic organ, is always susceptible to various diseases that ultimately lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, acute liver failure, chronic liver failure, and even cancer. Optimal and specific medicine delivery in various diseases, hepatectomy, shunt placement, and other surgical interventions to reduce liver damage, transplantation, optimal preservation, and revival of the donated organ all rely on a complete understanding of perfusion and mass transfer in the liver. This study aims to simulate the computational fluid dynamics of perfusion and the temporal-spatial distribution of a medicine in a healthy liver to evaluate the hemodynamic characteristics of flow and medicine transport with the purpose of more effective liver treatment.

This is an annual report indicating the number and early clinical results of annual vascular treatment performed by vascular surgeons in Japan in 2017, as analyzed by Database Management Committee (DBC) members of the Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery (JSVS). To survey the current status of vascular treatments performed by vascular surgeons in Japan, the DBC members of the JSVS analyzed the vascular treatment data provided by the National Clinical Database, including the number of treatments and early results such as operative and hospital mortality. In total, 137,909 vascular treatments were registered by 1,076 institutions in 2017.
