Published: June 2003

An unusual oxidative cyclization of a N-hydroxy pyridone 9 with Z-2-cyclodecenone 11 has been achieved, thus demonstrating a possible biomimetic route to pyridomacrolidin 2. [reaction: see text]

Exploring nickel-catalyzed organochalcogen synthesis cross-coupling of benzonitrile and alkyl chalcogenols with computational tools.

The preparation of organochalcogens has increased in recent times due to their promising biological activity properties. This work studies the reaction mechanism of a nickel(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling between benzonitrile and propanethiol to produce new C-S bonds by computational means. The proposed mechanism follows the classical oxidative addition/transmetalation/reductive elimination cross-coupling sequence, involving an unusual oxidative addition of a Ph-CN bond onto the active species.

Cationic Magnetically Active Nitrogen-Doped Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon with Record Low Band Gap.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Inner Mongolia University, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 235 West University Street, 010021, Hohhot, CHINA.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have attracted significant interest in material chemistry, particularly if they own extremely low band gaps and magnetic properties. However, challenges remain regarding the synthetic accessibility and energy saturation issues. In this study, we introduce NR-11, which consists of eleven aromatic rings in its main conjugation and is separately doped with two electron-rich nitrogen atoms.

Infertility can harm a patient in physical, psychological, spiritual, and medical ways. This illness is unusual because it affects the patient's companion and the patient individually. Infertility is a multifactorial disease, and various etiological factors like infection are known to develop this disorder.

Alkane monooxygenase (AlkB) is the dominant enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of liquid alkanes in the environment. Two recent structural models derived from cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) reveal an unusual active site: a histidine-rich center that binds two iron ions without a bridging ligand. To ensure that potential photoreduction and radiation damage are not responsible for the absence of a bridging ligand in the cryo-EM structures, spectroscopic methods are needed.

Anomalies in Long-Crack Propagation at Low ΔK in Some Engineering Alloys.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

TDA Inc., Falls Church, VA 22043, USA.

In this article, we discuss an unusual pattern in long-crack behavior at low stress intensity factor ranges ΔK (below ΔK), characterized by an initial dip, followed by a plateau, and then an acceleration in fatigue crack growth (FCG) rate. This unanticipated FCG behavior was first observed experimentally in the IMI 834 alloy and reported by Marci in 1996. Such an anomaly is only reported from experimental observation but cannot be understood or explained using the plasticity, roughness, or oxide-induced crack closure assumptions.
