1. Relative to rabbit erythrocytes, chicken red blood cells exhibit a much greater capacity to utilize [3H]adenine for nucleotide synthesis in vitro, even at 5 degrees C and in the absence of added inorganic phosphate. 2. This difference is largely due to a higher concentration of phosphoribosylpyrophosphate and greater activity of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase in the avian cells. 3. The capacity of avian erythrocytes for utilization of guanine and hypoxanthine is several fold less than that of adenine. 4. The data are consistent with lower activity for hypoxanthine/guanine phosphoribosyltransferase than for adenine phosphoribosyltransferase in intact chicken erythrocytes. 5. The results indicate that reutilization of adenine by chicken erythrocytes may be physiologically significant.

Extracellular matrix (ECM)-based small-diameter vascular grafts (SDVGs, inner diameter (ID) < 6 mm) hold great promise for clinical applications. However, existing ECM-based SDVGs suffer from limited donor availability, complex purification, high cost, and insufficient mechanical properties. SDVGs with ECM-like structure and function, and good mechanical properties were rapidly prepared by optimizing common materials and preparation, which can improve their clinical prospects.

: to address the issue of burst drug release in antibiotic-loaded poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement (ALBC), this study involved preparation of novel PMMA bone cement and determination of its antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, compressive properties, maximum temperature, and setting time. : a novel acrylic monomer, which contains the 3,4-dichloro-5-hydroxyfuran-2(5)-one (DHF), was synthesized and utilized to develop non-leaching antibacterial PMMA bone cement (NLBC), designated as DHF-methacrylic acid (DHF-MAA) bone cement. In the preparation of this bone cement, DHF-MAA served as a key component of the liquid phase.

The Coombs test is important in hematology for detecting erythrocyte-bound IgG antibodies or in serm through agglutination methods, but its sensitivity and specificity are limited. Flow cytometry provides a more precise and sensitive alternative for quantitatively assessing RBC-bound IgG antibodies. This assessment is crucial for evaluating the risk of hemolytic reactions and ensuring safe transfusions.

Galectins exhibit a variety of biological functions through interactions with their ligands, including galactose and its derivatives. Tandem-repeat galectins, such as Galectin-8, can act as pattern recognition receptors to aggregate and neutralize bacterial pathogens. In this study, Galectin-8 was identified in Trachinotus ovatus (golden pompano).

Background: To investigate the association between the development of incident interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the disease activity of RA with its various components, especially C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).
Methods: We analysed data from RA patients, observed in the German biologics register RABBIT between 2001 and 2021. In a nested case-control study, patients with a reported incident ILD diagnosis during follow-up were matched 1:5 to patients without ILD.
