Published: March 2003

A bio-ceramic reactor for slightly polluted source water from Guanting Reservoir in Beijing was conducted at low temperature. It was shown that the removal rate of CODMn and NH4(+)-N decreased from 20% to 6%, 90% to 65% respectively when the temperature fell from 10 degrees C to 0.5 degree C. The main factor affecting the efficiency of bio-ceramic reactor was the microbial activity which decreased more than the biomass when the temperature dropped. Microbial activity and biomass in the bio-ceramic reactor were in a regular pattern of gradient distribution from the lower to the upper along the direction of raw water flow.

Mixing regime as a key factor to determine DON formation in drinking water biological treatment.

Chemosphere

November 2015

Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1799 Jimei Road, Xiamen 361021, China. Electronic address:

Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) can act as precursor of nitrogenous disinfection by-products formed during chlorination disinfection. The performances of biological fluidized bed (continuous stirred tank reactor, CSTR) and bio-ceramic filters (plug flow reactor, PFR) were compared in this study to investigate the influence of mixing regime on DON formation in drinking water treatment. In the shared influent, DON ranged from 0.

[Study on hydrogen autotrophic denitrification of bio-ceramic reactor].

Huan Jing Ke Xue

October 2013

Department of Municipal Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Wuhan University, Wuhan 430072, China.

Nitrate wastewater is processed in a bio-ceramic reactor based on hydrogen autotrophic denitrification. The implementation procedure of biological denitrification by hydrogen autotrophic denitrification was investigated. The effects of hydraulic retention time, influent nitrate load, influent pH, temperature and the amount of hydrogen were assessed throughout this trial.

Performance of a completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite process for treating wastewater with different substrates at ambient temperature.

April 2013

Key Laboratory of Beijing for Water Quality Science and Water Environment Recovery Engineering, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing 100124, China.

The stability and parameters of a bio-ceramic filter for completely autotrophic nitrogen removal were investigated. The completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite (CANON) reactor was fed with different concentrations of ammonia (400, 300, and 200 mg N/L) but constant influent ammonia load. The results showed that the CANON system can achieve good treatment performance at ambient temperature (15-23 degrees C).

Biological pretreatment of Yellow River water.

J Environ Sci (China)

December 2005

Department of Environmental Sciences, College of Environmental Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

Bio-ceramic filter(BF) and moving-bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) were used for biological pretreatment of Yellow River water in this study. The BF only had slight advantage over MBBR for TOC and ammonia removal. However, like UV254, the average removal rate of THMFP in the BF was much higher than that in the MBBR.
