Published: June 2003

Investigation of esterase-lipase activity in the digestive gland of redclaw crayfish Cherax quadricarinatus showed that the optimum enzyme activity occurred between 35 and 40 degrees C, with 100 mM NaCl at pH 8.5. Heavy metals completely inhibited and calcium ions partially inhibited enzyme activity. The enzyme activity diminished as the length of the fatty acid chain of substrates increased. Molecular masses for four isozymes were 43, 46, 63 and 118 kDa, respectively, as determined by PAGE.

6-Indolo-[2,3-]-quinoxaline derivatives as promising bifunctional SHP1 inhibitors.

Dysfunction in the SHP1 enzyme can cause cancers and many diseases, so it is of great significance to develop novel small molecule SHP1 inhibitors. Through continuous monitoring of metabolic and targeted processes of SHP1 inhibitors in real-time, we can evaluate the effectiveness and toxicity of the inhibitors, further optimize drug design, and explore SHP1 biology. Indoloquinoxaline is an important class of N-containing heterocycle, which has been studied and applied in the pharmacological field and in optoelectronic materials.

It remains unclear why unilateral proximal carotid artery occlusion (UCAO) causes benign oligemia in mice, yet leads to various outcomes (asymptomatic-to-death) in humans. We hypothesized that inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) both transforms UCAO-mediated oligemia into full infarction and expands pre-existing infarction. Using 900 mice, we i) investigated stroke-related effects of UCAO with/without intraperitoneal administration of the NOS inhibitor (NOSi) N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 400 mg/kg); ii) examined the rescue effect of the NO-donor, molsidomine (200 mg/kg at 30 minutes); and iii) tested the impact of antiplatelet medications.

Cyrus Tang Medical Institute, Collaborative Innovation Center of Hematology, Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Growth arrest specific 2 (GAS2) is a microfilament-associated protein, which is widely distributed in human tissues. It exerts a pivotal influence on various cellular processes, including cytoskeletal regulation, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and senescence. GAS2 has a dual function in cancer cell growth: on the one hand, it enhances the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemoradiotherapy and prevents malignant transformation of normal cells; but on the other hand, it maintains the growth of cancer cells.
