A brief review in the form of a tutorial is presented on convective instabilities that arise from thermocapillary and buoyancy effects. This tutorial primarily focuses on the effect of multiple layers and side walls on the nature of the convective flows and associated patterns. A comprehensive explanation of the physics of this type of convection is followed by a discussion of the mathematical features of bifurcation associated with the problem and some of the recent experimental studies. The strong solid-liquid interaction leads to the complicated occurrence characteristics of shale oil. However, the solid-liquid interface interaction and its controls of the occurrence state of shale oil are poorly understood on the molecular scale. In this work, the adsorption behavior and occurrence state of shale oil in pores of organic/inorganic matter under reservoir conditions were investigated by using grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

The reduction of CO2 to CO provides a promising approach to the production of valuable chemicals through CO2 utilization. However, challenges persist with the rapid deactivation and insufficient activity of catalysts. Herein, we developed a soft-hard dual-template method to synthesize layered MoS2 using inexpensive and scalable templates, enabling facile regulation of sulfur vacancies by controlling the number of layers.

Vitiligo is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by the loss of melanocytes, leading to skin depigmentation. Despite advances in understanding its genetic and molecular basis, the precise mechanisms driving vitiligo remain elusive. Integrating multiple layers of omics data can provide a comprehensive view of disease pathogenesis and identify potential therapeutic targets.

Somatostatin-expressing (SST) neurons are a major class of electrophysiologically and morphologically distinct inhibitory cells in the mammalian neocortex. Transcriptomic data suggest that this class can be divided into multiple subtypes that are correlated with morpho-electric properties. At the same time, availability of transgenic tools to identify and record from SST neurons in awake, behaving mice has stimulated insights about their response properties and computational function.

Working memory, a fundamental cognitive function of the brain, necessitates the evaluation of cognitive load intensity due to limited cognitive resources. Optimizing cognitive load can enhance task performance efficiency by preventing resource waste and overload. Therefore, identifying working memory load is an essential area of research.
