We show that for a class of bistable reaction-diffusion systems, zero-velocity fronts can be robust in the singular limit where one of the diffusion coefficients vanishes. In this case, stationary fronts can persist along variations of the system parameters. This property contrasts with the standard result that the front velocity v(&mgr;), expressed as a function of a control parameter &mgr;, is zero only at some isolated values &mgr;(0), and thus not giving robustness to zero-velocity fronts when &mgr; is varied. An oscillating elliptical disk in free space has a uniform surface velocity distribution and is therefore a rigid sound radiator. The radiated sound also represents that scattered from a stationary disk in the presence of a normal plane wave. Using the Fourier (Hankel) Green's function in cylindrical coordinates, together with the monopole Kirchhoff-Helmholtz boundary integral, rigorous analytical formulas are derived for calculating the surface pressure distribution, radiation impedance, on-axis pressure, and, directivity pattern of an elliptical open-back disk in free space, and these are plotted over a range of normalized frequencies.

Introduction: To effectively monitor post-match changes in physical performance, valid, reliable and practical measures which are sensitive to change are required. This study aimed to quantify test-retest reliability and sensitivity to change of a range of physical performance measures recorded during an isometric posterior chain (IPC) lower-limb muscle test and a countermovement jump (CMJ) test.
Methods: Eighteen Italian Serie A academy soccer players performed three IPC repetitions per limb and five CMJ trials in 4 testing sessions.

This study aimed to introduce and validate a new method to estimate and correct the orientation drift measured from foot-worn inertial sensors. A modified strap-down integration (MSDI) was proposed to decrease the orientation drift, which, in turn, was further compensated by estimation of the joint center acceleration (JCA) of a two-segment model of the foot. This method was designed to fit the different foot strike patterns observed in running and was validated against an optical motion-tracking system during level treadmill running at 8, 12, and 16 km/h.

In quadratic nonlinear media with normal dispersion and nonvanishing group velocity mismatch between fundamental wave and second-harmonic pulses, the wave packets of two harmonics can be locked together in propagation in the form of walking X-shaped light bullets. The output wave packets are developed into X-shaped light bullets with significant group delay time due to mutual dragging and significant shifting in spatiotemporal spectrum due to delayed nonlinear phase shift. We also show that spontaneously generated phase-front tilting can balance the dragging force induced by group velocity mismatch and lead to zero-velocity walking X-shaped light bullets.
