ROCKs, or Rho kinases, are serine/threonine kinases that are involved in many aspects of cell motility, from smooth-muscle contraction to cell migration and neurite outgrowth. Recent experiments have defined new functions of ROCKs in cells, including centrosome positioning and cell-size regulation, which might contribute to various physiological and pathological states.

To develop novel mineral-filled composites and assess their enhanced properties (stiffness, a good balance between mechanical strength and impact resistance, greater temperature stability), a high-impact polypropylene copolymer (PPc) matrix containing an elastomeric discrete phase was melt mixed with natural CaSO β-anhydrite II (AII) produced from gypsum rocks. The use of phosphate rocks as low-solubility phosphorus fertilizers has been promoted to reduce the environmental impacts of agriculture, but adequate nutrient uptake by plants depends on solubilization of the rock, driven by soil microorganisms. Here, investigation was made of the microbial solubilization of low-solubility phosphate rocks, together with simultaneous bioprotective action involving the biocontrol of microorganisms. The aim was to enhance function and value by delivering two effects using a single bio-based product, in accordance with the concept of a "bioreactor-in-a-granule" system.

Heterogeneous phase astrochemistry plays an important role in the synthesis of complex organic matter (COM) as found on comets and rocky body surfaces like asteroids, planetoids, moons and planets. The proposed catalytic model is based on two assumptions: siliceous rocks in both crystalline or amorphous states show surface-exposed defective centers such as siloxyl (Si-O•) radicals; the second phase is represented by gas phase CO molecules, an abundant C building block found in space. By means of quantum chemistry; (DFT, PW6B95/def2-TZVPP); the surface of a siliceous rock in presence of CO is modeled by a simple POSS (polyhedral silsesquioxane) where a siloxyl (Si-O•) radical is present.

We report here on soft-template electropolymerizations of polypyrrole (Ppy)-based nanocomposites triggered by graphene platelets (GP) from shungite (SH) rocks. A properly designed procedure for an efficient extraction of graphene platelets from SH powders is established to produce remarkable graphene materials in a low oxidation state and with a high electrical conductivity (1490 S cm). By using positively and negatively charged templating surfactants the role played by the graphene units on the electropolymerization reactions is pointed out by SEM, EDX, TEM, SAED, XPS and Raman spectroscopy.
